Gabriel Medina's father was fined 5000.00 by the ASP for yelling at the judges during the Lowers Pro.I guess he didn't like the scores ( his son won the event). G-Med is the same kid that won the SF Rip-Curl contest...too funny.
Personally I don't like Medina's style at all. He does some incredible stuff but without any soul.
Plus that fact he claims more than a 49er...and it sounds like his Dad is a douche.
I can name about 30 guys I'd rather see surf.
Raging soccer dad move. I know a lot of soccer dads on this board. They're way classier, take care of their cats and dogs, put capers in their salads, and act with care and alarm towards others. Gabba gabba hey should make him wait outside if he's gunna be raging like that.
@goingleft I don't think Medina claims that much. I thought that was one of his 'things'. He's the low key, non-claiming brazilian. As for his style, the thing that I find so impressive about it is the lack of extraneous movement. While every other guy (except arguably John John and Julian Wilson) does a lot of hip shimmy and rolling up of windows to balance after a landing, Medina almost makes his landings look too easy. The same could be said for his carves. Huge sprays and deep carves without so much as a trailing arm flap.
I could see why you don't like it, but I also think it's worth noting that it's his incredible skill that allows for it more than just a decision to be mechanical. I think Medina is the real deal. It's just too bad he's Brazilian, but then again, they deserve it for as much as they care about surfing down there.
Judging by what I saw at ob his small stature obviously makes him look less powerful than say Mick fanning and the likes,but my word the speed,the airs,the effortless turns.hes the whole package and I can see him being at the top for a long time.as long as papa keeps his opinions to himself.
I don't understand how ASP can fine a non-participant at an event? Not defending him in anyway-poor form for sure. Unless Medina's Dad is somehow part of his "team", that could be the only option I could think of?
ASP judges = what a bunch of babies. Fined for yelling?? Think of all the abuse umps and refs get in other sports, all the time.... The judges deserved to be yelled at most of the time anyway. I just feel bad for guys like Shane Beschen who were doing airs in contests a decade+ ago and not getting the scores for 'em. Now you HAVE to do 'em.
@ Quadrafino - the reason they're able to fine Medina sr. is because GM is under 18 therefore his dad is a legal party in his son's ASP membership. Nevermind that - I just checked, he's no longer a minor, so I'm as stumped as you are Quad. As far as I know you need to be 18 to be legally responsible in Brazil. Anyone?
