Surfing a 30-Foot Wave, At Night -- 2AM Jaws Tow-in

2599

Last night, big-wave surfer Mark Visser gathered up a helicopter, a jet ski, a buoyancy vest tricked out with LED lights, and a surfboard laced with submarine lighting built for NASA, and took off for Jaws. At 2:00 am local time, he caught a 30-footer off Maui for a one of a kind ride.

why, because he can? Helicopter, photogs, jet ski, crew...his money, he can waste it as he sees fit....whatever.

If this guy ever tries to talk about saving the environment or being one with ocean he should have to do this next time while on fire. The shot is cool looking though, I'd vote a fine waste of money. He is clearly a huge douche though, his own website is totally ridiculous if this isn't his own ill gotten ibanking gains or inheritance shame on the surf industry.

Bit of a clown act, I'll agree. If you're going to do something amazing, make it practical at least at face value. That's what a good gag is...is looks practical and has very little elements, yet it hides the minutia. Here, obviously, we've already got too much going on with the support team crap :)

@cloud: unlike this stunt, I would be impressed with "I biked across Afghanistan naked"

see, what he should have done was put on about 5 times as many LED lights of various colors....and someone with a zoom lens from the cliff should have done a long exposure shot to track his motion on the wave with the lights.......that would have been cool.....nice job, but he could have pushed the creativity of it much more.
