Did you read the Stab Mag. article on NY getting ruined by hipster surfers? funny. The mayor of NY even had some comments about Hipster surfers should stay out of the water during hurricane Sandy.

A world-class break, Turtles; for this old salt, the best break in NY and among the top five in the Northeast US. I feel very fortunate to have chased and surfed many a hurricane swell there and at other nearby spots in Montauk. All memorable sessions. The most memorable--albeit for absolutely all the wrong reasons--took place one Tuesday morning, about twelve years ago. I decided it was a Definite Go that Monday afternoon, after having meticulously tracked Hurricane Erin over the weekend and throughout the day. I reorganized my work schedule and told my assistant I would be out the next day. It was still dark when I left the Upper West Side of Manhattan. By the time I paddled into my first wave, American Airlines Flight 11 had struck the North Tower.
