Rant - Surfline, Surfer, an Surfing magazine...Stop promoting The Wave Jet!!!! Screw that shit!!!

Who the hell wants more kooks out in the line ups? Everyone is allowed to surf, but truly surf. None of this electric motor powered surfboards. Who wants to hear a humming electric motor out in the peaceful ocean? Not me!!! I cant believe that Surfer, Surfing, and Surfline are advertising that piece of shit invention. I hope I never witness anyone out in the line up out on one of those things, cause you wont get a look of appreciation from me.

if anything people in their late 60's and over should be able to use them or people with handicaps like lost limbs or unable to paddle

Love the ocean not powered surfboards!

peace and love and all that good happiness stuff

I can only hope these things will be pricey enough to keep their numbers down. And we though SUPs in the lineup were a problem... God help us all.

I went over to their website - http://wavejet.com/index.php - where they list Garrett McNamara, Corey Lopez, and Steve Walden as team riders! They also have a section on "Jetiquette," which I pasted below:

"So next time you ride, make sure to keep in mind these rules of WaveJet-tiquette...so that you never come off as a WaveJerk!

Don't cheat. WaveJet was not created to let you cut into the lineup and slide in on another rider's waves.
Stay in line and wait your turn!
Follow the normal rules of paddling, don’t WaveJet through the heart of the lineup.
Share. Just because you can catch all the waves doesn’t mean you should.
Be nice. You're the lucky one with the WaveJet - show a little love for the surfers around you!"

Coming Spring 2012, people. "WaveJerks" in the lineup :(

well, i guess in OB they are going to be banned, right? for the safety of our beloved plover (or the wavejerks themselves)

Of course the best way to stop promoting these devices is to keep mentioning them right here! Occupy Wavejets!

if you are worried about SUP s and jet boards you are probably surfing beginner spots. surf some hollow-bigger waves...

I believe they are around $4000-5000 so I don't think its much of a threat. I'd be surprised if the company can sell enough to make a profit. My Uncle who has surfed and worked as a mechanic for 35+ years has shoulders that are totally shot and he can't prone paddle anymore, he looked into one and thats how I know the price. Destined to be the "Segway" of surfboards!!!

Fin... I mostly surf ob at j land. Has nothing to do with where you surf. There are sups out in the line up from b all the way to s st. So has nothing to do with wave quality. It's about the tranquility and peace you get out in the water without hearing some dude on a motorized surfboard

In all seriousness, have you actually heard one of these? I can't find any videos close enough to hear. From the design, I could see it being relatively quiet to anyone above water. Maybe we should give it a listen before blowing up companies that advertise them. Hard paddling and breaking surf make a good bit of noise too.

I don't see myself ever buying one regardless. Half the reason I surf is because I love to swim. My bigger concern is people who can't swim well using these things to get out in bad currents and then running out of power, or people who can't surf well tossing their 20 lb. boards around at everyone else.

But that said... if its relatively quiet and some charger wants to use it to get out and into otherwise impossible surf.... more power to him. Pun intended. I have to admit it is a cool concept even though it seems a bit ahead of its time. Who knows, in 50 years we might be looking at today's boards the way we look at the wooden boards of old...
