Rant - surprise at casual name dropping of gray whale and montara

(since I have no karma here is a rant)

Why does everybody get bent out of shape about name dropping areas of Linda Mar, and then it's okay to call out Gray Whale and Montara? I don't agree with that, but I guess it doesn't really matter though. GW (aka POGM) has become the "secret spot" of all of the city and over the hill'ers, but at least they stop there. Best to leave out the spots on the coastside, even if you don't think they are that secret.

Thanks!

I am in the vague is best camp, probably very vague. I expect most people are, but sometimes it is surprising why humans like to talk about things/spots under the radar-especially on the interwebs. I have applied this thinking to not only surfing, but any place that I do not like to draw any further attention to. In this world of social media and viral information, I have learned what friends get what information from me. Seems like common sense, but perhaps not since there is a location turtle. Hope you enjoy your secret or low brow spots as long as possible

agreed. if you found yourself lucky enough to have a good, uncrowded session - why would you go and post information about it online? it makes no sense.

secret's got nothing to do with it. its an ethic. you're a subscriber or you're not.

its summer. its small. this is pretty typical.

creepy vibes from below, whipping backwash, and surf that snaps boards like twigs, tend to regulate things in the fall/winter, just fine.

that said, if you're gonna surf 2nd st, use the damn rip to the left (to get out, and to get back out after a wave). don't be a dork and paddle against it and wind up getting pulled right along the front of the lineup as people take off. that won't make you any new friends. :P
