To the gentleman up north on OB who helped me out when I was in trouble this AM. I took one on the head, surfaced, my board was gone, and I was essentially hyperventilating/panicking/drowning. Thanks again as I'm not sure I could have swam back without help!
I think I get it, If you mean FVD blows coffee because he used to surf OB without leash or even wetsuit and would therefore be shocked at andyL's lack of survival skills....but I don't agree with it. I would like to think FVD would also have assisted him. The guy said he was panicked and welcomed the help...I'll take his word for it.
I'm glad it worked out ok. It's not always about ability or prowess, sometimes you just end up in a tight spot. Surf with a buddy if you can. Be safe out there everybody.
don't rely on your leash to save your ass...or other surfers to come bail you out. Maybe you shouldnt have been out in the first place, guy.
Assuming you're conscious and have already surfaced, you almost cant drown while wearing a wet suit, and you can probably swim faster than you can paddle a board. Just repeat those two things over in your head to fight the panic....
