Water quality: link down & new link

Rant - Water quality: link down & new link

I'm really jones'ing to get out, but struggling with the poo factor. At least in Pacifica it may be my own poo. Is that better? At least I know what's in there. Large portion of sushi, watered down with a few gallons of sake and Japanese beer. . . I could eat that again right? Anyway, I digress. . .

I looked at the StokeReport links and found the "Beach911" links are down.

Here's an alternate link; beach water quality

Looks pretty poopy. . . but too poopy?

Water is clean in the City, FWIW.

@sticker, I'm still waiting on the city's measurements to come in before I believe that. There's been a real lag in posting them lately. Perhaps some cutbacks at DPW :/

Does anyone have an informed opinion of how clean lindamar water will be tomorrow?

Only our friend & @crypto's favorite, entercoccus, is a little high.

Personally, I'm OK with that. Unfortunately, OB is torn up & unsurfable. S wind almost knocked me over this morning when I was looking at it.

Some good news : turns out it's OK to consume your own feces. It's consuming other peoples that will make you sick.

Read that in this book. No joke. Rose George: “The Big Necessity: The Unmentionable World of Human Waste and Why It Matters.” http://www.nytimes.com/2008/12/12/books/12book.html?_r=1

You gotta measure the risk-to-reward factor: is surfing LindaMar after a rain worth getting sick? In my opinion, it is never worth surfing LindaMar. Especially after a rain.

@king of kooks: is that why one's own farts smell ok while everyone else's smell really bad?

fwiw our office is on the bay (pier 38) and the storm has gathered all sorts of trash & crap under our pier. Really gnarly stuff. Dunno where it will all go after the storms pass: the bottom? the ocean? Fremont?

Montara should have less sewage - the creek at Linda Mar is likely carrying some filth.

wetsuit farts even more so: the direct delivery system.

I agree with Mahu on this one. Seems to be a fine line between stoked and staph.

I just did the "risk vs. reward" evaluation in Bolinas and opted to stay dry and caffeinated. But there were 3 guys out. One guy a very good surfer who almost made it look fun, another guy who made it look tolerable, and a third guy who was just floating on his board catching bacteria in his orifices.

I'm planning on saving some time by just staying home and taking a dump in the bathtub. Too much? All this rain and no surf is clearly eroding what little sanity I had left in the first place...is everyone else losing their mind too? I can't be the only one...

I'm not qualified to surf in the city yet, linda mar has river runnoff and nasty bits in the pump station runnoff... what about jetty? other options for a newb?

I was a BWTF volunteer for years working with San Mateo County and Surfrider. The Monterror sampling point is Martini Ck (######; both the creek runoff and the water at the shorebreak about 50-100 yds from it are collected), so you can basically disregard the EC counts for that beach if you're not surfing the ######, which is relevant because: there's storm runoff on the ######. Untreated sewer runoff. I've seen the water (and sand) turn a very nasty brown/green. That's more than just dishwater, kids.

Whitey loves the water when it gets dirty, too.

GWC was/is usually the cleanest place to surf, in terms of water quality, after storms, relative to others in the area, based on the sample runs anyway.

where is GWC?

Options for the days when the water is downright nasty:

1. SUP the bay out of Sausalito - You can rent a SUP at SeaTrek and paddle looooooong distances between angry/horny seals over to Tiburon without actually getting wet (except the time the alpha seal landed on the back of my board in a dominance play). No surfers to harm through kooky behavior either. Pretty fun if there is no wind.
2. Rock climb - Actually pulled plastic with @tcannon this week, which was fun. So, if you climb, let me know.
3. Lord of the Rings Trilogy - 9 hours of watching hobbits trying to protect "Da preshussssss"

Jetty's a slightly better alternative, but there's still a bunch of drainage that runs out of those pipes right there on the beach (not to mention whatever washes off the marina right around the corner).

GWC isn't so hot for beginners tho, be careful if you try it.

Could also head north.

Having nothing good to say, they've opted to say nothing at all?
