Rant - Wax removal devices...

I'm a big fan of the Pickle (http://www.picklewaxremover.com/) for getting the final bits of wax off a board, but I've always struggled to find a good way to get that first chunky layer off. Over the years I've used spatulas, wax combs, random plastic, etc. but haven't found that perfect device. Maybe the Wax Buddy works (see video). Anyone use it? Anyone find something really effective?

I use the wax comb that came with my pickle, then cover the spikey bits with some cardboard. Little warm sunshine and it comes off like butter. The 6'8 I have was in someone's garage for 5 years so the dried out wax took a little more elbow grease, but for the most part it works fine.

just leave your stick in the sun for 15min and use a library card.... gadgets are lame

The pickle isn't lame! ... I use the sun method to get the wax off and then the pickle to clean off the remnants. Don't knock it until you've tried it. Love that pickle ...

if the sun isn't available, a hair dryer works well. Just run it right in front of the scraper.

I know Kok, I have a new wetsuit AND a new board that desperately need water time. They look so sad all dry. Come back, surf.

agree with KoK. hitting it tomorrow no matter what. i agree with the others that the pickle is by far the best final step in the removal process. i feel bad about leaving the board in the sun. paranoia about an @crypto delam.

Watch out for the hairdryer. It's a quick way to delaminate your board. Hold that sucker at a distance if you do it at all. High heat is bad news.

Elbow grease works well.

@tcannon: regarding the hairdryer: I run it right in front of the scraper with my bare hand running the scraper. I figure if it's not getting hot enough to make my hand uncomfortable, it won't cause any damage.

Thus far it's worked, but I concede the possibility that the method could cause problems.

To the person who pickled/scraped then left a giant gob of wax in the grass of the hmb parking lot earlier this week. I have it; it's safe. Please let me know where I should return it.

Firstly use one of these to scrape off the heavier top layer - no need to use too much pressure;

Then place a few paper towels on the deck of the board and moisten the towels with this or triple x, etc;

Leave it for 15 minutes and then rub off the rest of the wax with the moistened towels.

Wait for a warm sunny day, set her in the sun for 20 minutes or so, then use an old credit card or something of the like. Works great!
