Webber Wave Pools promise two-meter high artificial waves

2116

Webber Wave Pools have unveiled proof of concept of the artificial surfing formula that generates continuously breaking waves around a central island.

Greg Webber, the visionary behind a project that kicked off in 2002, has shared a few photos of the perfect flawless waves on the official Facebook page. Webber Wave Pools released three common configurations that may be used in the first commercial license of the Australian surf park idea.

The first one is a 75-meter wave pool which accommodates six one-meter high waves. The second option is a 100-meter wave pool that may pump either four two-meter high waves, six 1.25-meter rides or ten one-meter wave faces.

The Flowrider at the Sentosa park in Singapore doesn't look too bad --

I tried a flowrider once when my wife forced me to visit the world's worst surf island, the Cayman Islands. The experience was interesting, but it wasn't surfing. Without a fin it's more similar to snowboarding and it's really easy to catch an edge. Simply put, this is not a substitute for surfing...

Unless ma nature is doing it, generating waves is going to take a LOT of energy. Why the hell hasn't anybody designed a quality artifical reef yet? Seems like they have everything down on what makes the better wave breaks around the world. Why not take an area with one missing ingredient - bathymetry in the lineup, and fix it? A lot of places get a lot of wave energy, quite a few of those have favorable winds, how hard is it really to put the final piece(s) together? Seems LONG overdue.

where is the money in making artificial reefs? there is your answer. are you going to pay $20 for 10 mins of surfing a man made reef break? or would you just assume you have "free" access to it, because the ocean is for everybody?
