Wetsuit Review: Isurus Wetsuits

2599

Joe Writes: When I first heard about Isurus, a small company making suits in Montara, California, I was pretty excited. As someone who has surfed their whole life in cold water, it makes sense to me that the people designing suits should live in a place where they actually need one.

I’ve spend a lot of time surfing north of Monterrey, most of it freezing my *ss off. Starting a wetsuit company on that stretch of coast is like selling sweaters in Scotland — it just makes sense. So I got in touch with Isurus, requested a test suit, and did a little reading.

In addition to their geographic advantage, this company is clearly willing to think outside the box. They use a lot of Yamamoto — hardly groundbreaking there — but they also looked beyond surfing to tweak subtle but important aspects of their design. Personally, I’m never going to swim and then bike and then run anywhere, but the Isurus guys weren’t afraid to turn to the highly competitive realm of triathlon to mine some insights.

best wetsuit on the market in the U.S. period. yeah, people will argue about the japanese wetsuits, but are you willing to drop $1200.00 bucks for a suit you havent seen or tried on? no. having said that, i have the 343 and have surfed 3-4 hours at the beach and felt hot at times. its a little tricky to master getting it on and off, but once you figure it out its very very easy. first time is a bitch. 3rd time is a piece of cake.

Isnt this the 3rd or 4th time we've had advertisements posted for this company? We get it: local company, warm. We'll check it out. Next please.

@king of kooks: So how would you feel about a rant about guys towing in wearing isurus suits?

I'd go mental.

Another approach to marketing might be for this company to provide 1-week Isurus wetsuit tryouts to thought-leaders like Mr. Shiver, Mr. Dive and Ms. Tracey.

Tracey has one. So do a few pals who have tried everything else and these win hands down. They win for warmth, and durability, and their fit is a bit tricky but that supposedly is part of the magic and flex. I'm going to get one next.

Sometimes small companies can beat big ones by trying. I think this is the case here.

I'm not affiliated with the company in any way. I'm just a little gear obsessed.
