I was out at the beachbreaks in south SC county on Sunday morning and saw a huge spout from a Humpback, best spout I've ever seen as there was no wind and sheet glass, about 100 yards out near 25ft plus high spout, the whale rose up after the spout and I could clearly see it was a humpback. Couple of SUPers paddled way out there after it. So I could see how this could happen in SC that same day. Water not too cold upper 50's and super warm day....

Dolphins at The Beach can bite. I'm just waiting for someone to say "not a shark, its a dolphin", then get bit. The sounds from the loudspeakers on the beach drive them nuts like thumpers in Dune.

Humpbacks have the baleen stuff. But I still wouldn't want to get the clamp down by one of em. I probably woulda pooped my suit if that was me.
