fair surfing conditions at San Francisco - Ocean Beach

Tuesday 9am - San Francisco - Ocean Beach, fair surfing

###### Localism. Found some WH fun waves this morning, but not without hassle. Was off to the side by myself enjoying flabby shoulders and some longer snappier rides along with some dribblers. But then, a group much much better than me rolled up on me and started snaking waves. I'm respectful, but not one to back down. I tried to trade waves, but they were unimpressed by my skills. There was almost a collision with two of them as I was paddling back out and tensions were high. They were like pros. So I finally just gave up and watched for a few minutes as one of them launched an air right next to my head just to let me know whose spot this is. I wasn't born here. I'm not a local. I get it. Fortunately, a school of sardines musta went by because the local crew swam off. I've had some fun with dolphins, but today was really f*cking cool. They were having fun with me. Probably laughing their asses off. Stoked.

Are you sure they were locals? Maybe kids from Santa Cruz? When SFOB is firing, on a 70-degree, sunny Sat, I can understand the need for paddle battles, stink-eyes, and spray in your face. But when it's 2ft, foggy, high-tide, on a Tues. that kind of behavior is not localism, it's called being a dick.

Awesome, awesome post. Thanks!

Where we were, the locals were much more chill. Perhaps b/c the conditions weren't so primo, they spent a lot of time paddling from peak to peak.

They were popping up right when I would take off kooking me out. Then on the paddle back out, they would charge from inside the wave and split right by me. They did it 3-4 times. the water was pretty clear so I could see them racing toward me. Lots of aerials. All for about 10 minutes and then normal again. Tricksters. It seemed all in good fun, though. I didn't tell their parents.

I was lucky enough to have a bunch of them around me yesterday morning at OB. There must be lots of food in the water right now (didn't someone make a comment about paying the landlord?). What I really enjoyed was that even so they seemed to be passing through traveling north, if there was a wave coming they would take the time to ride it. My buddy always says that dolphins bring good waves and that held true for me yesterday. I had a much better time than the conditions might suggest.
