good surfing conditions at San Francisco - Ocean Beach

Friday 2pm - San Francisco - Ocean Beach, good surfing

The universe has been conspiring against me for the past couple of weeks to keep me out of the water but today I had my revenge. Saw one of the biggest most perfect waves breaking as a drove down the highway. Saw people getting big long ride after ride as I suited up. Found a channel half as wide as a football field and made it out no problems and within 2 minutes snagged one for myself. Waves were breaking like thunder with rainbows in the spray off the back. Lots of big boards and saw one snapped in half. Unfortunately it was softer, less consistent, and less clean by the time I left.

I, alas, found the un-channel, big as a football field. Bee-atch paddle! But I made it out and snagged a few big ones. Woot!

Indeed it was good, but man it was getting kind of stuffed. And too many dudes on rhinos :\
Oh well, I got one from the pack, and took my ball home.

I'm learning. Shorebreak was plenty strong enough to practice pop ups. Then I found a channel and decided to go out, stay out of the way, and watch the big boys play. Unfortunately, I had trouble getting out of said channel and ended up waaaay out the back. After I paddled South for 25 minutes I was in the same place. Rip must've gone out and then North. My arms were completely shot. So I got beside my board and started using my legs to head straight in... that is, until I felt something pull slightly on one of them. Then, don't ya know, suddenly my arms had a lot more strength! When I finally got back in I noticed a 3" zig zag cut all the way through my wetsuit on the leg I felt a pull on. Looks like someone took a steak knife to it.
?
Days like this make me think maybe I should've just bought a bike.

just kidding. i too have felt the "slight pull" that has no name. also got crab-pinched as well this year, a new one. glad you got the gentle version; we are all interlopers out there.

hehe. More like swim it off. I'll be out again for sure. On the plus side, I did get to see a few guys get barreled really clean. Can't do that on a bike. I shouldn't have let myself get that far out. No need to interlope more than I have too. I just need to get my arms in much better shape first. And get the wetsuit fixed. And health insurance.

I felt a "slight tap" on my back in the parking lot...It was seagull poop.

And yes, where I was out the current was pulling south.

The damage. I'm confused because I have no cuts on my skin. I guess the tear could've been there already, and I could've imagined the tug. But I spent years in the water growing up sponging. Something definitely grabbed pulled at my leg enough to freak me out. I also take care of my suit and examine it pretty closely when I rinse it off, and the last time I did that was the day before. I'm 99% sure that tear wasn't there. But who knows...
