fair surfing conditions at San Francisco - Ocean Beach

Sunday 12pm - San Francisco - Ocean Beach, fair+ surfing

SFOB fair++ Pretty fun out there, solid OH on the bigger sets (towards the smaller end of the beach), breaking top-to-bottom even on the high tide. The gusty offshores make for some interesting takeoffs--extra stroke or two definitely mandatory, and a few of those set waves seem to feather forever. What with the sun and the race and all, plenty of people walking around the beach--you'd almost think we lived in a beach town. In the words of rebecca black: fun fun fun fun.

I'd call it excellent++. I didnt drown. Had a surprising mellow paddle. Caught a bunch of "holy cow, here we go" waves. Didn't get obliterated. And me and my buddy had a peak to ourselves. Woot! Stoked on being stoked.

Looks to be some very nice glassy waves out there today according to the Surfline cams. OBKC seems to be down, and not updating the pic. Hope you all had some great sessions ; - )

On the low tide on the n0rth end it was awfully frustrating. Just a freight train current running toward Alaska, and 95% of the waves missing the outer bar unless you were on that magical 100-foot-wide takeoff zone. Which I never was. Oh well, better than not going at all.

NOTE TO SELF: Do not ride a 6'2" rounded pin when then buoys are reading 7.5 feet at 14-15 seconds. Made some hair-raising elevator drops on some big beautiful waves. Good- because I brought the wrong board

definitely much more manageable than yesterday. caught one DOH+ bombie that made the whole weekend of punishment worth it.

I think when we had those swells a while ago that were up around 20 seconds it was just working better, setting up better with more defined bars and channels, but I saw some excellent waves today.

In fairness, I rated it 'fair++'. Not 'fair', not even 'fair+', but 'fair++'. Also, morally, I felt bad giving a 'good' rating so early in the morning on a sunny Sunday for fear of people blaming me for the afternoon crowds.

I was not able to surf it but took a look around 2pm and it was excellent. OB just delivering some amazing waves. Lots of great peaks with nobody around. wow!
