poor surfing conditions at San Mateo - Other

2073
Monday 11am - San Mateo - Other, poor+ surfing

We did the drive and checked a bunch of the SMOT spots. Didn't see much and ended up coming back up to one for a little paddle-time. The breeze was a bit stronger than other spots, but it didn't seem to mess things up too much. They were already messy: WH-SH bumps with plenty of chop and reflection off the beach. The conditions weren't all that bad all things considered. There were plenty of waves to ride.

On a personal note, I had one of those i-though-i-knew-how-to-surf-what-happened mornings. I kooked-up plenty of take-offs and blew waves outright. I face-planted, stepped off the rail, the nose, the tail... pearled like it was going out of style... back to the drawing board.

observed: Mercury in retrograde
also observed: a huge friggin crab. srsly. again.
also also observed: fritter.

You got a fritter without me D:
I'm downgrading our session to poor-

:'(

Better in the water than it looked on land, but still not so hot. Rideable. Got a few wave like things. Kooked up some of those wave like things so hard. Oh man. Embarrassing.

Then to add insult to injury, I did not get any pastries.

I think I'll cry now.

ehhh... yeah, that pastry. Sorry about that. I thought you drove south and that a therapeutic fritter might help. Last-minute call...

I did drive south... where there were no pastries. :'(

@Greacen, it's just summer rust. You'll shake it once things get decent again. Yesterday evening the beach had some marginal waves. This morning I opted to run again. I loathe running, and when I do it, it's generally only a sign of utterly terrible surf or residual guilt from excessive amounts of pizza and/or beer. I really need a log for summer.

hurricanewe: someone left one by the trashcans in the lot if you're looking for one for free.

Hurricanewe- Could be! Plenty of rust to work-out. Yes... grab a log. Would be worth it...

I'm sure that's gone by now, @Tracey, but thanks for the heads up. Probably an accidental loss in which the owner hopefully came back and found it. I've got a 6'3 custom round pin from a low key local shaper in watertight, used, but decent shape that I'd gladly trade for a fish or beat up log. Anyone's welcome to msg me if they are interested.

hurricanewe, i just added a log to the quiver and im glad i did. Cross stepping is not as easy as it looks and keeps me interested in riding double over toe waves.
