Surfed righteous Frisco lefts solo for 2 hours (with baby dolphins) at a spot that rhymes with Usain Bolt. Where was everyone? How long does it take to pour out last night's bongwater? Stay unfocused San Francisco !

Also had great seash in small but clean ishhhh waves 6am ###### was fun.
A few walled up zippers on my new stick... I ave found my perfect dims and the board is sick, I can't wait to try in some juice.
it's a mix up of the Rusty slayer and 70s style speedster with some personal tweaks.
Once u get a board that just works it's amazing I have switched volume around moved forward a I am a heavy front foot.
But if u want a work of art call Tim Bessel....

Ha, kook, as most always, good form. Yeah, no sense wondering, Markler, when it's said and done, we all come from east of the high tide line.

good times with buddies , a bit down south from the Al Merrick carnival.
Did manage to exchange my license for a nice CI something or other inspired by Dane Reynolds. Took it south and soon realized I surf nothing like Dane.
I inquired of the new CI's price upon return and responded with appropriate sticker shock/envy as they replied '$675'.
Went to Sunset shapers soon thereafter and noted you can get a board shaped for $500, as long as it's under 6'11".
So the question for this chat group- who to contact for a new board? I'm thick (5'9", 195lbs) and looking to downsize (to the middle 6's). Thought a 'Neckbeard' or something else would do the trick but $650+ is a bit of coin, esp. for boards designed for the waif's of contemporary surfing.
Local shapers with thick guy knowledge are the target. Key word being local. Want to support those in the area, but want the support of a board that can float a structurally dense individual.
Thanks in advance for any feedback.

"...that can float a structurally dense individual." That's great. I'm going with Sunset Shapers for my next ride. I go to devils teeth and drool over the baked goods while lurking the shaped goods next door.

@TylerK45- Try something in the 6'5 range. Get some rocker, go at least 19.5 wide, figure about 2.75 thick. This volume will float you. I actually ride one of the Dane models. "Proton". Board handles up to double over (barely) but i am of the lanky nature...bout a 155-160.
So maybe push a board 20 inches wide if you need the extra volume. won't quite have the snappy response you're looking for, due to the extra width, but def give you the float. or push it to 3in thick. I say stick to the 6'5, 6'6 length for sure. You could go shorter for sure, but that extra length will come in handy for bigger days when 'rolling in' early is necessary.
On the other hand, if it's a barrel board you seek, for the serious days- can't go wrong with a 6'8 round pin, 19.5 wide, 2 7/8 thick.
While Channel Islands are a few hundred more, i have been surfing there boards exclusively for the past 15 years, and played around with many custom shapers and i've found that The CI boards work for me. When you find a line you like, why switch? And no dis-respect intended to the great many artists/shapers of our sport, im just a CI man.
This is just my opinion however, good luck.

Outside Lands sprawl was avoidable this morning. Crowds were manageable too. Waves were lackluster. There was some small potential there, but the tide totally swamped it. Too slow, soft, and inconsistent. Fall Countdown '12. Sunset Shapers is a good bet. Neptune as well.

Tyler:
Doug Haut. The man is still dealing. And understands body composition + mechanics relative to board shapes very, very well IMO.

@ procmail- when i was a kid, my friend's Uncle "tucker" , good friends with the legendary Mr. Haut, intrusted us his mini-gun 7'4, 3 inch thick, 20 wide....bigger boy bopard for sure.......ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. Glassed fins-
Some very fond memories of that stick.
Haut is a legend. Super underground, 'keeping it real' mofo, for life.
and one day, i had the board on my roof...drove in to a parking garage.....and all three fins ripped off! sad day it was :(

I am with hurricanewe... shawn at neptune has shaped some unbelievable boards that i managed to pick up off the rack at insanely cheap prices given the quality. you can't go wrong with them or sunset shapers.

Had I not gone with Jamie Murray, my second choice was Dave Vernor. Nice designs, and very affordable.
What say you all about Vernor boards?

@Tt, in regards to Bob Pearson, every once in a while on CL you'll find brand new Pearson Arrow LB's for around $500 from some female in SC. I once contacted her, and she said that she buys older models in bulk and unloads them on CL for less than $600. Unfortunately no boards less than 9'0".

The best part was I was asking about the $600 wave glider model ,real thing by the way, and she just happen to have the one I got and wasn't posted on CL for $500, plus board bags for $75 slaters brand

@ TT and Waveglider - i surfed Pearson Arrow as my primary boards as a kid growing up. All around bad ass boards. Always snappy, always fast, and always designed and built to handle the waves of it's local regions.
Cheers to Pearson!

@Tyler, Ward Coffey is another option for a shaper who works with body types. I'm 6'8", 225lbs and has been surfing for 15 years - he shaped me a magic board that gives me enough float to paddle well and enough performance to keep things interesting.
Granted, he's down in Santa Cruz so not as local as the Sunset Shapers guys but worth checking out if you're considering shapers outside the city.

I know of only ONE board that works for guys with serious kegs, and it comes with a paddle. And btw jaysus Rick Kane, can I be on your team if there just so happens to be a bar fight?
