fair surfing conditions at San Francisco - Ocean Beach

1981
Thursday 11am - San Francisco - Ocean Beach, fair surfing

Pretty much every middle level executive with a leased luxury vehicle is out "getting ready for the season " on their new 6'1" Rusty Trombone (epoxy!) or 12' candy colored megalog. Fortunately they didnt read the summer intern's PowerPoint presentation on holding position. I enjoyed a Solo session once the tide switched. Whatever happened to middle aged men playing golf or cheating on their wives on a Thursday morning?

Fun little waves out there. Not much wind.

don't knock middle-level executives. I make my money by grinding those suckers into the floor. if having them surf one-foot slop makes 'em feel human enough to get back to the cubes and nose-down in excel, it's all good.

on my way to the maldives, btw. Alana B is in, she says, but sending me a new "coaching contract" whatever that means.

from the article:

“A lot of people in the finance industry have taken it up lately. It gets you away from the stresses of Wall Street. You’re just a regular guy in the water”

Love the guy with the jet. With that amount of disposable income he should take some surf lessons and get off the 12 foot supertankers. They're not really that cool buddy. Neither is a plane with earthtone stripes. ; )

Saw some guys get some quick little rides today that looked fun.
Here's to fall coming in!

Why's that guy on the right kneeling down? A requirement from the guy on the left to ride in his jet?

one of those "oh I made $50M on selling my POS thing to Google and now I'M A SURFER MAN, LOOK AT MY KOOK BOARDS!" silicon valley people.

sigh. for reference, here's the inside of Vinod One (the diff between a little money, and some actual money).

Vinod, you deliver. And I'm serious. See those under-chair LED ambient lights? Nice touch. I mean Branson did it with his Virgin fleet with purple and pink for the unwashed masses, but that cool blue is indeed all yours.

Best aircraft surfing story I've seen was some dude in Santa Maria or SLO who owned a helicopter with external board racks. Somehow it was legal for him to land that sucker on the beach inside the Hollister Ranch, despite not owning a parcel. Presumably below the high tide line. There was a photo of it in surfer or surfers journal . Cant seem to find it now. But it was quite a site.

Gotta take those opportunities when you can....yeah man, I surf OB.

We will still have The Beach to ourselves when a real swell comes around.

Hans and Frans were so disappointed. They'd done their installation of lights and a one mile long line on the desert floor for the elusive Mr. V only to discover that their labor of love was a landing strip. It would be their last freelance Burning Man installation.
