fair surfing conditions at San Francisco - Ocean Beach

Tuesday 8am - San Francisco - Ocean Beach, fair surfing

Got better during the DP session. Currently light / no wind and fun, slightly mixed up head high waves. Get on it :-)

Heheh... It was "fair-" to mebbe "fair". Surely @cyclona realizes the Beach has lots & lots of places to surf. Some perform better than others at various times. Conditions were certainly not good, but they did improve, and there were some decent shoulder to head high peaks that would roll through on occasion.

I've surfed "poor". That wasn't "poor".

:) Come on, you know I don't post on spots but will RANT from time to time. I do shudder to think some poor soul would either 1) get up and come down and expect some decent waves and instead be treated to sh!t on a stick, wasting gas, energy and/or significant-other surf credits or 2) be trapped behind a computer getting wicked FOMO thinking the beach is firing fun waves. That has happened to me on occasion and it is... "fairly" unpleasant.

Well, I'll take that difference of opinion. I agree that it was hard to line up, but there were some fun HH shoulders with occasionally glassy conditions. The first half of the session wasn't particularly good, but the second half really picked up & I was wishing I had a slightly different board. At any rate, I find it hard to nail down a 'condition' for OB since things change so quickly & are different in other locations.

I try not to overrate, and also to give an objective viewpoint, not just whether I had a good session or not. By the time I got out, I thought conditions were fair. I've surfed plenty of poor (better than the gym in my opinion), and it was a lot better than that. No wind, decent period made for relatively easy paddling, and there were the occasional good waves. Biggest problem was intermittent / right time right place made it hard to score the good ones, which was why it was fair not good. But much better than poor (in my book).

Whatever though... to each their own.

Haha -- well I didn't know we were rating how hard the paddle was. In that case, fair+. FWIW, it definitely looked like a case of morning sickness that could get fair later on in the day.

i'm enjoying this thread.

anyway, i had a fun time this a.m. it was not as good as I had hoped, but better than I thought at first. caught a ton of waves, some very fun, many complete shit. there was a weird mix of chop and then glassiness that flitted in and out. smaller waves were rendered mixed up, but the larger ones would suck the chop away and provide an otherwise glassy face.

as sticker pointed out, we've all surfed much worse. definitely better than being stuck in a cube staring at a computer.

Just for the record, not that my opinion matters...but i have never gone surfing based on a report here. It's more like a place to share the after session thoughts. Glad some of you had fun. I think i surfed friday? Not too sure...anyhow,
