fair surfing conditions at San Francisco - Ocean Beach

Thursday 7am - San Francisco - Ocean Beach, fair surfing

We have a nice morning at Ocean beach with scattered clouds and brisk offshore winds. The swell has filled in and we're seeing a lot of groundswell energy in the 16s+ range. The paddle is looking challenging and the waves large and powerful, perhaps in the 3x overhead range. Overall it looks like a tough morning to score a wave. If you do decide to paddle out, be careful.

I waffled too long looking at it & lost my window to go... But, then sat & watched surfer after surfer after sponger get denied. Finally saw someone make it through & then proceed to sit out by the Farallones. Never saw him turn for a wave. It was breaking pretty top to bottom up & down the beach. Beautiful shoulders, but heavy.

Signed,
Armchair Surfer

I agree @sticker. I just think there's too much out there this am. I'm resting up for the fun that hopefully awaits as the swell fades.

i paddled out at ###### around 7:30 this morning. didn't see anyone else out. some massive 2x-3x overhead sets. drifted north quickly, snagged one bomb, and then got sucked too far out and spent the majority of my time trying to paddle into better position. ended up getting caught inside at ###### Cove, got smashed a few times and broke the tail of my 7'5" (leash tore right through it). That one bomb was worth it though, nothing like some survival surfing to start the work day...

citystoke - surfing a big day on the north side with incoming tide is truly brave. I had one experience where I almost got sucked on the other side of seal rock when a wave came my way that I was just barely able to make it back to the beach. Too much drama. Ever since then I am a bit paranoid of getting sucked north. I would hate to be the kook everyone is watching get rescued by the coast guard.

Glad you had a good surf!

Surfed north of Santa Cruz this morning early. Pretty big sets (DOH+) and fairly clean. Then the tide peaked and it got wonky with the backwash from ######. There were a few big rides going down and the channel was working. Im saltier than anyone else in my office right now. Nice sunrise too.

yeah with the incoming tide i'm pretty careful not to let myself drift too far towards ######. getting caught inside at that point was pretty much intentional, although a wave with a shoulder to ride to the inside would've been nicer than 3 on the head and rag-dolling towards the beach ;) on a day like today though i'll settle for a 1 wave session and a safe return to shore
