poor surfing conditions at San Francisco - Ocean Beach

With all conditions pointing to what should be fun surf, my best explanation/guess for conditions like this is that all these storms really did tear up the sand bars, hence the disappointing slop that has been rolling in.
I drove yesterday, went to Rockaway late afternoon, and had a very fun session on the handplane. I wonder how much longer we'll have to drive for waves.

Seems weird though, because Thursday morning at OB was essentially epic? Very peaky, but the bars seemed to be working fine. Could it be localish winds messing things up? I guess beach breaks can change really fast.

Def. something funky with this swell. Surfed pleasure point yesterday near and then during low tide and the waves were freakishly thick and high-tide-ish. It was a really fun session, but just sayin', something's funky. I was wondering if it had to do with some combo of local and non-local winds or swell period or??? But something's funky. Wish I knew what it was.

i'm thinking tomorrow, with less swell pushing through, will be better and more fun. coming back from LM this morning i turned north onto the GH and saw a fantastic peak rolling in right south of sloat. one guy out catching muddy, hollow bombs. the inside was a train wreck, but the outside peak was definitely working.

Just dove by sloat and the inside might be cleaning up, but its hard to tell. There were certainly a bunch of guys down past the second parking lot, but with all the emergency reconfiguration of the area, its hard to stop and get a good look. either way its super nice with moderate off shores. the inside did still look like crap at the bathroom but down the beach might be better.

caught it decent on the outside once the tide dropped. only lasted for about an hour and half before the wind killed it. hooray for spring.

Today is a perfect example of how you can score empty OB. Just 2 guys in the vicinity where I was surfing, one guy went in and the other guy got stuck inside and called it a session. The lefts were really fast with the bottom dropping out and the rights were much more make-ablel maybe because the winds seemed more NNE.

I was actually hoping other people would paddle out for some company.
