fair surfing conditions at San Mateo - Half Moon Bay

Tuesday 9am - San Mateo - Half Moon Bay, fair surfing

Followed the Southern Trail in the wee hours of the day, and stopped at all the dots. Pier - too closey and bit heavy. When the whole inside moves in a maelstrom, it's natural to say to yourself "Let's check Rocky". Got to Rocky and she was a bit heavy. 2X+ on the odd set and it looked punishing. Projecting ourselves on the business end, we went to Lindy. Same ole same ole. ###### punishment, ###### "eh.." So off to Jetty, hoping for some small is beautiful results. End of the line. All off, suit up. A serenade by trumpet, to small waves was a nice respite after my rest. Fair-

Hehe, Cryptomale is not lying about the trumpet. This dude in a hoodie was out on the breakwater tooting away on his horn. Was pretty awesome. The only thing that could stop us cracking up this morning was the odd wave that seemed to come out of no where, look makeable but then the bottom would just drop out and it would slam you pretty hard. I look forward to seeing Trumpy at the jetty again!

Srsly, the guy could play! At first it was a warm up with tons of scales! Then it progressed into a full jazz sesh improv as Lee surfed wave after wave after wave.
My guess: RV park outcast: while he can play, 7:00am jazz reveille ain't in the neighbors' best interest, so it's off to the rocks you go.
We loved you, trumpeter. Keep doing what you do!
PS: of all the sounds I've heard out there surfing , I think this was a tie in amusement factor, with the impending storm of doom monkey howls at the zoo.

aren't there a bunch of RVs living there at that time? my experience with RV owners is that they all pack heat. i sure as shit wouldn't go out there and start trumpeting at dawn. seems like a recipe for getting shot or mauled by the RV park pit-bull....

Luke lives in one of those RVs, but he'd just wave his Pre at you and invoke the power of Adobe Flashâ„¢ technology

Set your Pres to 'tweet'...

Did you check out any of the spots (which shall remain nameless) 'tween LM & the jetty? We need to talk about those places sometime.

I like to refer to them at OMnom-tara and HAAAY Whale.

yeah we passed them and didn't see the HAYYY in hay whale (thank goodness, I had enough of that at 3.14159mile) and omnom-tara was heavy as F. Shorepound was at least head high and I lol'd.

GW was looking large and interesting. Montara also large, but not as interesting.

Saying GW looked interesting this morning is a good way to put it. I didn't stay too long but what I did see looked decent & clean if only it was peeling more.

I actually live in an rv in the ritzy end of HMB :)
I ended up skipping HMB and hitting 38th in Santa Cruz, ended up meeting up some surfing friends and scoring some nice Betty burgers on 41st.
