fair surfing conditions at San Francisco - Ocean Beach

256
Wednesday 2pm - San Francisco - Ocean Beach, fair surfing

This is a report for SFFP. Since the season is basically over, i figure it can't hurt (and I guess this might be my last FP report).

Small waves and small crowd this morning. Surprisingly consistent chest high sets coming through from 6-8am, then dropping off and becoming quite sporadic. (It wasn't just the tide.) I left at 9:30 when i was getting cold and a bit bored. All-in-all, it was pretty fun though (i'm surprised it was even breaking, and even more surprised that 4 or 5 other dudes showed up to surf.)

Nice- I looked at it this AM on my way up to Marin for a meeting. It was the best looking break from hmb to ######.

hahahaha and someone voted @stokereport down!
You merciless souls!
I think it should just stay off, let's say that "they" won if we consider it an us/them thing, which I'm not :D.

I got your back, @stokereport... Just put you back in the positive column. Would hate to see you get booted off your own site.

Oh, I agree w/@cryptomail.

And, uh, woo hoo! for OB tomorrow. :)

I think someone else suggested this already, but I am going to put it out there again: what about having a "mysto spot" in the drop down where stokers can post about any spot, and can name it or not based on personal preference?

What Jesse said. Do these mean anything out there in the world?

Not sure how that mitigates people's issues with reports on fp. I would have assumed that with basically half the sr population being against fp reports, they might have been dropped. Also, how come people never really submitted reports on the other 2/3 waves around the corner.

Just out of curiosity, what do you all feel there is to gain in reporting FP?

One suggestion I might make is that since most of the hard core SR's communicate via twitter, that seems like a perfect place to spread the reports to those who care while leaving out this site which obviously has a broader viewing base.

Just a few thoughts.

and for the record, i voted no out or principle, even though it really doesn't effect me as I'm not that interested in surfing fp.

It's funny to me. If FP is left out, it's fair to ask which spot will be removed next? The Jetty gets crowded. Linda Mar is one giant party wave. Let's leave those places and OB out of the reports, too and poof! StokeReport just became StokeRant. Maybe that's what folks want? I dunno. The first time I visited SR, I was surprised that it even existed. Coming from Sonoma County, I've never been exposed to so much info about the surf in the near area. I thought San Francisco area breaks would be crowded from all of this information and sometimes they are. The funny part to me, though, is that I like Stoke Report. But, I do not like crowds. Does all of this info lead to crowds? To a certain extent, probably. However, I do like reading the FP reports and others. We can call a break by a different name, but most of us will know where it is if there is any hint in the report about the break. It's less fun to report "I went surfing somewhere. It was good." I'll admit, I definitely jump from one side of the fence to the other on this issue regarding FP, but it really is interesting how it cuts straight to the core of whether this site should even exist? I'm guessing everyone who routinely visits SR thinks it does. And apparently, about half of the people want SR in some sort of limited or censored capacity based on the survey. It's an interesting topic that is like plastic in the ocean. It never goes away!

In response to kool-aid:

There are two main reasons why I report on FP:
1) The same reasons to report on any spot--the information is helpful, both in the immediate sense, and in the sense that over time, it helps people understand the right combination of swell/direction/tide to make a spot work. I like receiving this information, so I give it out freely when I can. (And yes, i sympathize with the whole 'oh, you need to put in your time at a given spot, etc. etc.'.)
2)To democratize the spot. This is mainly because of some bad vibes from last winter (and basically everyone i've seen in the FP lineup this year has been really chill...and no, its not because my posting has diluted the usual lineup....)

Why I don't post reports on "You Know Where" and "The break that shall not be named":
1) These spots have some hidden charm, which I respect. (ie, when you type 'SF surfing' into google, you dont get photos of these breaks as the first link.)
2) there is no need to democratize. I have never witnessed anyone dropping in on someone there. The vibe seems quite different from FP, even though many of the usuals surf in both places.
