fair surfing conditions at San Francisco - Fort Point

Saturday 10pm - - , fair surfing

SFFP 1-4pm today. A complete joke, but pretty fun. SH and sunny--the ride of the day goes to the guy who paddled out in the yellow inflatable dinghy (much to the amusement of the swarms of tourists).

since the community are still posting sffp reports, i've brought the location back. go community :)

I've abstained from this debate since many would say I'm in a bit of a glass house myself on the topic, but I thought you had done the right thing by removing the location. It creates unnecessary tension for minimal to negative benefit. One person reporting doesn't speak for the community, which it seemed was pretty evenly split. Hope you reconsider... and hope you all find some waves in this killer weather.

sorry, i didn't mean to create a new debate on the sffp issue.

my point was, the only difference that removing the location made, was to force posts to be wrongly classified. this means that they show up on the wrong location page etc ... this is sub-optimal, especially for me since i'm a bit ocd. so i'm just removing that confusion.

it's now pretty clear to me that the sffp decision isn't mine to make. gotta love democracy.

stay stoked.

I think Surfpulse has summed up my thoughts perfectly. Things have seemed a lot nicer, inside the water and out, since you removed that location.

I support ocd in site admins :) SFFP belongs in the list; let folks choose to use it or not.

Disappointed as well that this topic has come back. I think it shows a lack of respect. May need to fade into lurker status.

@mhopeng: agreed

@king of kooks: that would really suck ... say it ain't so? my thoughts are that removing the location didn't deter reports. if people don't like the reports, vote them down. it only takes 3 down votes to get something in the wastebasket. isn't that democratic? isn't that what this country is about?

It's more subtle than just voting up or down.

Good news though....."Let's All Draw a Cartoon of Mohammed" Day is coming up May 20. There's some hardcore democracy in action for ya.

See you down the line

I, for one, am really tired of this distraction. So I think I am going to comment about it.

i don't think this issue is up to any group to decide - leave it to individuals.

also - if you're so opposed to the reports then why not post random inaccurate reports, others will probably do them same, over time invalidating the idea of the one stop shop for SFFP conditions. The idea would work unda the bridge due to lack of supplementary info, it would not be so easy for OB.

There's too many people at Linda Mar. Can you take that one down, too please? Oh yeah, and the jetty. Just make this OB Stoke Report, but take that one down on good days. Thanks.

I don't know why I got negative votes just for agreeing with someone, but anyway I was out at FP today and others out there today can attest that there were some very, very tense moments. Lots of yelling and mean looks. Seriously ugly and lame.

It seems on this site that reporting on FP is like that show Jersey Shore: you know that nothing good can come out of it and it makes you dumber just by watching, but people just can't resist. It's like a trainwreck.

I think @tehedly said it well, also: it's just a distraction. What good is coming out of it? Everything else on this site seems so positive.

Lame @Kenny got voted down. Bah.
And y'all know the issue isn't crowds, per se. It's the fact that FP is a point break w/a narrow take-off zone that doesn't handle crowds. So comparing it to OB or LM or other beach breaks is lame & besides the point.
Bah. Annoyed I stepped in to this discussion, too. Per @tehdely, it's an unwelcome distraction from a frickin' fantastic website & a community of which I'm proud to be a part.

can you elaborate on some of the tense times at FP? Sounds like an entertaining story

also: is this website named by people in the parking lot or lineup?

Every spot is sensitive. Some more than others, not a question. But, there's a reason you see surfers grouped together at the Jetty or LM or OB. I love this site, but the whole point of it does seem kind of funny. None of us like crowds. Yet, we visit a site that more than likely contributes to the crowds. It's kind of interesting.

Mark: there was a lot of "get the f*ck out of here alien!" this, and "go surf somewhere else!" that. There were two guys, one from SF and one from a European country, that were quite literally shouting at the top of their lungs at each other, threatening violence towards each other. There was a lot of dropping in from local guys on non-local guys. There were some serious evil glares. It was just not pleasant.

I'm not making this up. I'm sure someone else out there saw it. And I'm not making it up when I've heard people mentioning Stokereport in a negative fashion in the lineup AND the parking lot. I get along pretty well with most of the regular guys, and I've heard them talking serous shit about it several times. If you remain anonymous and listen for yourself, you'll hear the same thing eventually. It always seems way worse on the weekends. I rarely surf there then. Today was an exception, and I was reminded why I don't normally do that. ;-)

Thanks for the update Kenny - I believe it - and am always interested in aspects of "localism" often times I wonder what would happen if locals were outnumbered, then out voiced (out muscled) what would the outcome be? The question may come down to "right" - which is quite difficult to argue in the ocean. I'm not sure where I stand on this but am a long time surfer and have to question my own at times - mainly interested in being positive and getting waves...
