fair surfing conditions at San Francisco - Ocean Beach

Wednesday 5am - San Francisco - Ocean Beach, fair surfing

It's a pleasant morning at sfob. It's clear and winds are light. There is a decent swell in the water producing eaves in the shoulder high+ range. It's fairly windswelly but there are consistent shoulders for the taking. Looks like a good morning to get your surf on.

Surfed two spots on the beach this am. A huge variance. From HH+, challenging paddle out, hollow and punishing to weak and mushy with a dry hair paddle out. Sadly neither was working very well. There is a lot of potential though, light wind, good tide, powerful swell. Somehow, it just wasn't coming together at the spots that I surfed. I suspect that someone is scoring big right now though. Also, the water is still toasty.

I had about the same experience. This morning definitely did not live up to my high hopes.

I ain't complainin', but I rarely do.

Seconding the strange variance of conditions. Paddle was rough; even when I found a working channel it still felt like a treadmill. Can't say I scored anything particularly epic but there were definitely rides to be had, even if it was others having them. So hungry.

I've been watching the cam and still shots all morning...and it just doesn't seem to be working. Looks like I may have finally made the right call by going to the office....will keep an eye on it though....thanks for the post sesh reports.

this morning was really fun, especially after the past week of ankle biters. wave quality definitely varied tremendously depending on which sandbar you paddled out at, but it's not too difficult to figure out where it's working well. i caught a couple of really fast, dredging head high set waves. if only the wind would shift offshore...still though, today is pretty good for summer OB

Yup. I went out at a head high spot and spent a lot of time/effort getting outside. Once I got out, there was not much there - caught some mush but the energy just wasn't there. Eventually, I worked my way over to a very steep section just beyond the inside dump and caught one "fuck yeah" wave and decided to call it day. Wish I had gone for the smaller cleaner end of the beach...

Note: if you want to avoid the crowd, don't head for the middle of the alphabet.
