poor surfing conditions at San Francisco - Ocean Beach

Friday 6am - San Francisco - Ocean Beach, poor+ surfing

The fog moved in yesterday and hasn't budged. It's a real pea souper. I can't see shit but from the buoys but I'm guessing waist to chest high surf. It's likely messy with some texture from the blustery sw breeze.

I think I can see Stacy taking a #### through the fog

It ended up being messy but kinda fun. Maybe head high on the biggest sets. Lots on fun drops and a few longer rides were had. The wind has calmed down too Fair-

I found a strange mess at dawn, lots of people out, with thick fog. Lots of surface chop, short period wind swell that locked up with the south I guess a HH set pretty frequently. For about 45 minutes one could pick up a crumbling outside and ride it into something of a wall toward the inside, taking care to cut around the surfers paddling out that you couldn't see through the fog when you took off. Then the tide came in more and that shut off. Felt pretty confident (this is the OB I know best) after half dozen and then got absolutely pounded taking off into a great looking wave which already had three dolphins in it when I slipped and dug the nose in. I'm sure they weren't impressed.

I hear you PhysChem. I had a nice selection of waves and then I had a bigger one with a couple dolphins. I admit that I cut them off but they seemed to be going straight so what are you going to do? That wave was fast and then it ran over the top of a smaller, more walled wave in front of it, which launched me down the line at mach speed where the lip decided that it had had enough of me. I received a right and proper ocean spanking for snaking the dolphins.

Well well well....
Thank you Duck Dive for cutting through the bubbling pea soup and getting to the flavorful cube of pork that is Stacey.
Yes, the alarm beeped at 5:15, and I snorted in a most cliche cartoon like rumple stilskin fashion as I woke from my heavy slumber. I knew today would be the day to get this ass outta bed, well with all the hype of the South Swell and all. We had posters and billboards made extolling it, many a person whispering since last week, and an air of mystery and potential was now upon us.
How could I not get out of bed now? Coffee didn't start yet, but it didn't matter.
I put on the flip flops on the side of my bed, grabbed the keys from the kitchen fob (same place, same time: see drug use), and Stacey knows the drill. She hops in the truck's front seat, and we're rolling.
The lights on the truck don't do a damn thing due to the thick, heavy set, butter bean like fog.
This ain't no sugar ray fog. Butter Bean I tell you. Thick as it gets. The Cliff House was invisible and the shore was indistinguishable from the outside. All I could tell was going on was the sound of waves. I knew then, it was time to get in...time to get in the surreal green room, surrounded by a shroud of white. I had been there before, but it was in my head after a bar fight, while I was laying on the concrete. Today while surreal, was more concrete and more positive...I won't go into the situation that lead to me to that fog a while ago, that's what the users meetings are for.
I suit up, and Stacey runs free. Probably chasing a plover, I dunno, I can't see a gosh darned thing. I stretch and get ready to go, and Stacey comes sauntering back and then it dawns on me...damn I didn't catch her in the act through all the fog. I let one slip through the cracks. While I freely admit guilt, you cannot blame or judge me. I don't have my night vision goggles anymore.
If you see some sandy nuggs, well, yeah. It was probably me.
I shrug my shoulders, and vow to be a better, more responsible owner in the future, and let her back in the truck. Wasn't going to let her out today if I or anyone else couldn't see her. She hops in, starts gnawing at the pigs ears I got her yesterday at the vet's and it's time for daddy to rip a few.
Through the fog.
The thick, potent butter bean fog.
