good surfing conditions at San Francisco - Ocean Beach

Sunday 7am - San Francisco - Ocean Beach, good- surfing

There is a light mist hanging over ocean beach. Winds are light and the ocean is glassy. Set waves look to be in the shoulder to head high range. Waves are sectiony but there are some very nice looking hollow sections and shoulders to be snagged. Some spitting barrels on the inside.

Have to disagree. Been watching for over half an hour and have not seen one person catch a wave. All closeouts at present.

I see several large areas of red-brown discoloration in the water 300-600 yards offshore near the N end of OB. Anyone else see this? What is it? Phone camera not getting a good pic, I'll try again soon with better camera.

Just got in from a 2 hour sesh. Really fun overhead set waves. Couple of long rides. Lots of fun shorter ones. Stoked! Crazy current pulling north though.

I also noticed the red junk in the water.

It's red tide. It's been making it's way up the coast. Saw it off of HMB two days ago, spotted it from the hill in Pacifica yesterday, and it'll likely float past Marin tomorrow if the bay tides don't blast it out to sea.

Have to disagree with my previous disagreement. Super fun session right through high tide. Go figure.

Fair surf mid-alpha. A little more chop and bump, along with more push than yesterday. Some very hollow sections, some excellent shoulders, a not much wind until about 10:30.

Various opinions offered in the water on the red stuff include: krill, algae, pollution, red tide. The water seems to cold for red tide, imo.

oh yeah, where did that n current come from?

+1 for a fun session with duckdive. Was a little right place right time fit me but stomped one HH+ right that made the whole thing worth it. Looking forward to a week of at least OK surf :)
