fair surfing conditions at San Francisco - Ocean Beach

Tuesday 6am - San Francisco - Ocean Beach, fair surfing

It's a beautiful morning at sfob but a light fog is once again obscuring the view. I'm guessing that it's a few feet overhead, slightly junky but fun. Ill let you know.

Crazy south bound currents and junky overhead surf. If that's your thing then today is your day.

Went out at the bottom of the beach hoping for energy and shape. Found the former but not the latter. On my drive north at 8 I passed much funner looking surf in the middle and top of beach. Wish I had more time. If you are heading out, go toward the top of the beach.

###### was poor+... Yes there was size, but shape was not good & surprisingly lumpy given the lack of wind. I managed one nice big right & called it a day. Hoping for better conditions. Would love to hear if anyone had a great session somewhere else on OB this morning...

Welp, objectively, the surf has continued to deteriorate. I don't know enough about the effect of all the conditions to know why, but local conditions were good--no wind near shore & a falling tide (albeit a barely falling tide). Am assuming the swell direction, primarily directly from the west, and some winds out at the buoys are the culprits. Surf was just junky & mixed up, sending 1-1.5x swell from all directions at times.

But, subjectively, I had a better time than yesterday. After slogging through the inner bar & making it out to the outer bar lineup, I was fortunate enough to immediately find a big fast left. The white wash after my wipeout threatened to send me all the way back to shore. After making it back out, though, the outer bar shut down completely, flattening out instead of breaking. So we slowly made our way in to the inner bar punishers. That's where the subjectivity comes in. I managed to find a couple that made me proud, including one that threatened to cover me up, but I stubbornly refused to slow down to let it. Yep, snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

So, as it's been, end of the day, right place, right time. Good luck.

similar story for me this AM, a relatively easy paddle out and then a few decent size sets on the outer bars. it was really shifty out there though, tough to be in the right place at the right time. got a few steep ones on the inside on my way in too. better than nothing, but not great
