poor surfing conditions at San Mateo - Linda Mar

Wednesday 11am - San Mateo - Linda Mar, poor surfing

I scoured the coast this morning. OB was shrouded and blatantly too big to paddle out without being able to see what was actually going on. As per Linda Mar, I watched it (mid to south beach) for almost 30 minutes and never got out of the car. During that time I didn't see anyone get a ride that lasted longer than one bottom turn. Maybe I didn't watch it for long enough, but it looked like the usual lackluster setup of closeouts and flailing boards with the very rare shoulder that would stay open for 5 seconds. I even checked ######, which was washed on a low tide that wasn't low enough.

I actually surfed Lindy today from 10.30 - noon. You probably saw me. I was the guy killing it on the closeouts. Yea, I had so much unfun. You were smart not to get in...you saved yourself the pain and a pair of frozen testes. Remind me again when Lindy is ever good...????

Well there were lots of log rides to the left with lefts all lefty around. There were also about 20 peeps out just yoinking them left and left. Beautiful mellow morning

I like Linda Mar... it has it's moments. And it's time and place...

In my experience it gets really good only a handful of times of year. OB is such a better. challenging, and more consistent wave. Problem is, for the average folks, a fair amount of the time it's simply too big or sketchy, which is when Linda Mar becomes a viable yet often disappointing backup plan. Whereas OB holds swell, barrels, and has long racey walls, LM generally closes out or is soft and mushy complete with clueless drop-ins and/or is a slalom course of human obstacles pitching 10 foot pieces of finned fiberglass around on the inside.

There's places close to LM (non-secret spots) where it breaks so much better. I wish more people would surf there though. I'm the person who doesn't like to surf alone. I'd rather be around a group of people. I've seen Sharp Park/Pier look good but not sure why anybody doesn't surf there????

I've been tempted by the pier many times as well, went out a few times. Pretty wicked shorebreak you have to fight through...

Well, we've got two choices now:
SUP, Lindy
Localism has been pretty much played out.
I still should wear a helmet out there, like special ed.

I've never surfed the pier...but would love to go. Contact me if you'd like to surf there...Would rather pop my cherry with someone who knows it.

@Rashguard: ditto.

I don't like surfing by myself if it's anything other than mild.
