My van is in the shop and I was lamenting missing out on the surf when I realized that I could just suit up (I live in the inner sunset) and jump on the N. It actually worked out pretty well, with only a minor snarky comment from the driver. "You be careful with that". I'm assuming that he was referring to my surfboard [continued in comments]
The paddle out looked pretty gruesome but wasn't actually too bad. The surf was big. 1.5x with a very intermittent DOH set. The bigger stuff was intermittent and shifty and combined with the currents, it was almost impossible to line up. I caught one crazy DOH bomb, made the drop and then hit some chop and then spent a few seconds skipping down the face on my back. After a lot more paddling and one decent left, I called it quits. Probably not worth it unless you want to do a lot of duck diving and paddling.
Definitely worth it to see you all rubbery on the N!!

Yep, rode the N back wet. Kept a sense of public decency by keeping my surfboard between junk and passengers.
I have always wanted to do that. For extra credit, keep a Clipper card in your wetsuit and just bump your chest to the reader when you board.
I had a fun session this afternoon / evening. Paddle out wasn't too bad. Agree the larger sets were intermittent but solid DOH when they came, especially after the current started pulling me in a certain direction. The off-shores held me up at the lip of one of those DOH bombs...the ensuing wipeout was pretty violent. Caught a few others to make up for it. Always good to get the adrenaline pumping.
