Very good surf today. Conditions at the beach are clean with moderate offshore winds. Waves vary from shoulder high to overhead, and you can find whatever kind of surf you're after. Want nice rollers for your longboard/fish? It's out there. Want fast head high barrels over a shallow sandbar? Check. A lot of stoke in the water. Good times.

I wish it were that easy. Plus, after years of research I've come up with this highly scientific equation.

x = # of waves to catch
y = quality of surf (on scale of 1 - 10, 1 being shit, 10 being epic)
x^y = time spent surfing

a = how hungry I am, 1-10 (dependent on time spent surfing)
b = length of nap time, 1-10 (dependent on how much food I ate and how long I surfed)

Therefore,
hours in day I can get actual work done - [x^y * (a + b)] = .0000000000000000000000000023 hours of total study time

As a work from home contractor, Purpeana's calculation is not all that far off. I often surf, am starving, eat pile of food, settle in infront of my design work and then physically faceplant on my keyboard. Productivity hits a serious slump for the next 2-3 hours unless I manage to mash the right keyboard shortcuts with my face.

I bet if I wasn't up till 2 making up for the time I spent not being productive, I might not faceplant so dang hard.

It's all about the recovery meal. One odwalla type juice with protein combined with something like a fruit/nut bar and or a muffin and a large hot black tea. Do not eat a burrito or anything large and heavy like that and do not take a "15 minute" nap or acute groginess will occur. Take a short walk to keep your muscles loose until the tea kicks in and then you will be good to go.

I'm self employed and have been doing a bad job of getting out there but have been trying to sneak in at least one lunchtime session a week these last couple weeks, and it's been really nice. I shoulda gone today, I realize in retrospect, but I had too much workguilt.

they sell this thing at almost every grocery/liquour/convenience store out there. its called 5 hour energy. works like a charm. just eat before or you will be vibrating on some weird caffeine/vitamin high for about half the 5 hour rush.
