poor surfing conditions at San Mateo - Half Moon Bay

It was ok at about 7:30am but the wind shifted onshore at about 8:15 and it started to blow out. I nailed 1 really fun waves and bunch of smaller stuff. CH to HH+ on some of the sets. Tough paddle for the jetty. Shoulders if you really look for it. Have some video of mike almost making a few waves to load in a bit.

fair surfing conditions at San Francisco - Ocean Beach

We've got a nice morning with cloudy skies and offshore winds. There is a powerful 16-18s swell in the water producing waves in the 2xOH range. It's still a little mixed up looking, and the inside is mixed up and junky, creating challenging paddling. There are some bombs from time to time on the outside making it (maybe) look worth the effort. fair-

poor surfing conditions at San Mateo - Linda Mar

Fair around 9 am but poor by noon when I got out. Very variable, but most consistent from TB to the showers. North end had a few nice waves early on, but the paddle:fun ratio was all out of whack.

fair surfing conditions at San Mateo - Linda Mar

I went for a few of those mid-beach close-outs that @lkilpatrick mentioned without too much glory. Paddled down toward boatdocks and found a gang of people working a nice waist-high wave. Lots of fun up there!

Overall, a beautiful morning. Would have opted for a post-session nap on the beach if I didn't have to knock things off the work to-do list. Should be a really nice afternoon on the beach though.

Finally recognized @hasbro as @hasbro. Howdy!

There are a few decent shoulders in the chest to head high range if you can be in the right spot. Closeouts as usual but low wind offshore and clean lined up conditions don't suck. I am paddling out.

poor surfing conditions at San Mateo - Linda Mar

Dawn patrol sweep from LM to HMB this morning. LM had maybe 6 guys suiting up but the 2 guys who were already out there at 6:45 looked to be getting worked taking solid OH closeouts on the head with little reward to show for it.

Montara looked way better than I have seen it in a long time but there was nobody out. Burly DOH waves would occasionally peel for a nice left at the north end channel. The paddle out didn't look impossible.

HMB had too much tide with lots of reflections. 3 guys out and I didn't see a ride in the 10 minutes or so I was there.

poor surfing conditions at San Francisco - Ocean Beach

Thursday morning brings us clear skies, light winds and surf in the 2xOH range. It's looking pretty ragged out there, with funky, sectiony surf breaking up and down the beach. The paddle looks pretty challenging and the surfing opportunities few and far between. If you are feeling really desperate you might find something to slide down, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Fun solo session in the sun just a bit south of the jetty. No wind. No people. The waves were fun but not stellar: waist-to-shoulder-high, short rides, rare peelers to the beach. I'll give it a fair for the beautiful morning, but it's probably not worth ditching out of work.

poor surfing conditions at San Francisco - Ocean Beach

Tuesday morning brings us clear skies and light onshore winds. The surf is in the head high+ range and junky, sectiony and ragged. The wind isn't nearly as strong as yesterday but is still blowing hard a few miles out to sea. It is forecast to increase as the day wears on. I didn't see anything to call surfable.

Jetty actually wasn't too bad. I would call it fair and when I pulled out it looked to be cleaning up a bit. About waist-high+ on the more generous waves.

I was a total kook out there. Went over the falls 15 min into the session, my board whipped around and finned my bicep. It was weird..the immediate shock of the pain almost made me throw up in the water. Really odd. My hand instantly turned purple (even though it didn't get hit) and I figured it was time to paddle in. Circulation has started returning to my arm but I'm sure I'm going to have a hell of a bruise soon. *end whining*

It's 6am and the NW is already howling. It's gusting up to 30mph. Suffice it to say that it is a blown-out mess. It's a shame, since there is a nice groundswell in the water. The wind will almost certainly blow for the rest of the day. Ocean Beach is closed for business, unless of course, you have a sail or kite. Poor-

good surfing conditions at San Francisco - Ocean Beach

The conditions were just pretty good (wind came up big time). I was surprised not to see anyone out really. The only problem was that there seemed to be some mixed swell. I'd guess one running around 7@14 and another apparently registering at 9@20. The long paddle and getting caught inside seemed to confirm the latter. Still it was offshore and reeling for a while this morning. Caught some much needed good waves.

poor surfing conditions at San Mateo - Linda Mar

Not so hot at LM this morning. Close-outs from Denny's to the northern tip of the beach. A few ridable moments around boatdocks. For desperadoes and maint. sessioneers only.

Best part of the day was a great view of a sun-ring that appeared mid-morning:

Some very nice lined up clean waves at a break at the south end of Half Moon Bay. Looks to be shoulder to head high with a nice channel to get you out to the line up. Looks like lots of good surf here today.

fair surfing conditions at San Francisco - Ocean Beach

Happy Friday. Conditions are looking much better than they've been for a while. We have an offshore wind and waves in the HH+ range. It's a little low-period / sectiony but fairly well organized with some regular nice fast shoulders for the taking. Have fun.

This morning was a blast at FP with some blue skies, HH clean waves, strong currents pulling every which way for some added cardio, and the occasional outside set for variety. I even scored a pancake breakfast...can't ask for a better morning.

I had a better time than the conditions would predict. The waves are crappy, but the sun is shining, there's only a tiny wind, and I caught some chest/shoulder high crumblers.

We've got a brisk breeze out of the NNW a powerful but junky swell and more crappy conditions at OB. It looking very similar to yesterday, maybe 2xOH+ and nothing that really looks appetizing. I've got to go to the dentist in a bit, which sounds like more fun than surfing OB this morning. Sorry folks.

poor surfing conditions at San Francisco - Ocean Beach

More of the same at Ocean Beach. We've got a gusty wind out of the Southwest and a very strong groundswell in the water in the 18+ second range. This is combining with local storm activity to produce a formidable gauntlet of whitewater on the inside bars and threatening sectiony 2-3x OH body manglers on the outside. Don't even think about it. Poor-

Freaking Huge Waves! 3x-4x OH at the point. Slight onshore, but long period. If you could paddle your gun out you might get a ride. I might go check mavs to see if anyone is insane enough to go. I know it's big when I can see breaking waves out my window 1500 ft back back on the bluff.

poor surfing conditions at San Mateo - Linda Mar

New swell filling in with HH sets across the beach and plus sets at the north end. Stiff offshores and fairly clean conditions with steady rain. At 7:30 the tide was just too low to section up, so most everything was closing out.
More tide could help with that.

poor surfing conditions at San Francisco - Ocean Beach

It's raining hard at OB. A powerful new 18-22s swell has arrived. Combined with the local storm activity, we're seeing large and messy conditions. It's hard to tell but it's likely around 3x overhead on the outer bars. Overall, it looks like a day to get into work early and catchup on your email backlog.

This morning we will put emphasis on the word "texture". It is indeed textured, smaller than yesterday and I am currently looking for those workable inside corners we hear so much about.
I will head into the parking lot and collect some accounts of the surf conditions. I always find these first-person accounts our culture's most important and thought-provoking.
