Looks like a few logs having fun about 1/4 mi north of SMLM. Wish I had my board instead of a button down and dress shoes.

Got a few fun ones in the middle around 2:30. Waist to chest high on the sets, not too crowded, super-easy paddle with dry hair. Overall a good way to ease back into cold water surfing. T'was fun

fair surfing conditions at San Mateo - Linda Mar

A weird report for a weird session:
Really fun at first, with the high tide allowing for some long runs, but then the new swell appeared like an angry ex-girlfriend and...carnage. Just carnage. But then it seemed to back off again and bunnies frolicked in the meadow. (I wouldn't trust those bunnies. I think they're packing switchblades.) So, the after veering wildly between "fair-plus" and "fair-minus," let's just call it "fair." But weird.

fair surfing conditions at San Mateo - Linda Mar

It's cleaned up quite a bit from earlier in the week. There is swell, it's not junky, but expect closeouts and long lulls. Swinging wildly from Knee-Chest high to Chest-Head. Workable with patience.

Sun's out. Light winds. Froggies singing over in the marsh.

I've got a warm fuzzy layer of extra stoke this morning after dusting off a board that's been sitting in a corner for well over two years. A friend gave me the board when I'd only been surfing maybe a year and a half. It's a floaty 7'4 round-tail thruster. In fact, this is the very board I took out the first time I ever surfed with Greacen (my log was in the shop.) I flailed around on that board so hard. Every wave I got I pearled. I was really surprised he kept surfing with me. I was terrible. After a particularly kooky day, I put the board in the back of the rack and decided to focus on the basics on my log before trying again. Today I tried again. I was expecting to burn a day but turns out the board is kinda fun now that I've got half a clue how to use it. It was nothing pretty (I was rocking newborn-deer style pretty hard,) but hooray for slow and steady improvement.

fair surfing conditions at San Mateo - Linda Mar

Really good time out there this morning. I looked at the wind projections, and the swell size/period and decided a trip down S would be best. Sometimes I get it wrong and sometimes I get it right. I got it right. LM was lined up, giving nice long rides, with not too many people on the peaks. Norteno side offered very nice head high rollers. Tucked into a few dead ends, but the size was saying it would be of no major consequence, so I stayed in till it got dark a few times. Went back down Southside for a second helping with a few friends, so it was a one and a half session morning :) Dunno why everyone was congregating there, but then again, I was alone Northside and that's just fine says selfish me. Good times.
Polished it off with a free coffee from Sbux because the barista took pity on me because the lady before me was executing a laundry list (no less than 10 fru-fru drinks). So I took my two bucks I saved and went next door to have the bear claw of surfer's revenge. Tore into that mothertrucker like a bear on a mission, digging into the hive....impervious and unabated by the swarm of stings. Fair+, standing on two hind legs, sniffing the wind.

Good morning. My name is Cazart and I'll be your surfer today. I'd like to tell you about our specials...on this end of the table we have Jumbo Family Size Closeouts, and on the other end, the more petite Gutless, Dribbling Closeouts. All served freezing cold.
Can I get you something from the bar?

***POSSIBLE LANDLORD SIGHTING***
Surfed way down in Dixieland @ 8:30a - 9:30a. A guy named "Kevin" told me, "Me and my friend were up on the hill smoking a joint and saw a big-ass fin just outside the break about ten minutes ago." I asked him if he was local, he said he'd lived in Pedro Point his whole life. So...grain of salt in hand....I paddled out anyway. Everyone in the lineup had already gotten the word and all were huddled up together extra-tight, which made it even more Linda Mar-y than usual...but I still scored a bunch of fun, cold, clean ones. So, that.

Happy New Year.

Enjoyed the last few moments of this swell. Bye bye. More riptide madness and ob-junior currents to paddle against. Mostly WH breaking on each side of the rip. Found myself in the right place at the right time (a couple of times) and called it a day.

Moderate offshore breeze. Sunny! Not a whole lot of people in the water.

"Fair" is a fair assessment. Sunny, cold, offshore, big, lots of closeouts but there's a right-and-a-left working, and then another right down in the durty-durty. Nothing was where it was supposed to be with all that tide...surf if you want to surf.

fair surfing conditions at San Mateo - Linda Mar

Some fun waves for a crowded Sunday morning. Although, while there were a lot of people, most of them were bunched in a couple of spots. I found a nice takeoff that was delivering some peeling rights that sure looked like they were going to be lefts, but went right anyway and linked into a zippy reform that took me down the beach quite a ways. It only worked on the wave after the set wave, but I did get it a handful of times to call it consistent for SMLM. WH, maybe CH. Water was really clear. Last year at this time it was the gurchy color of mustard, if I remember correctly.

Warm offshore winds this morning. Falling tide. Pretty empty line up.
Every now and then a head high close out set with wind blown crests. Followed by interludes of nicely peeling waist high lefts and rights all along the beach.
Xmas came early.

fair surfing conditions at San Mateo - Linda Mar

Something breaking at all the usual spots on the beach. Breezy, sunny, choppy... couple of quick rides... couple of steep thumpers... WH-CH hardly any crowd. Would do it again.

You know the drill-- big thumping close-outs as the tide dropped. A few shoulders/faces/rides for the bold. Mostly drop and dive tho. The sun, and beautiful windless morning almost pushed it into the fair range. I'd do it again.

Pretty junky out there. A few drop and wash rides (mostly flop and wash for me with a sore arm) and one dribbling reform that I milked for a slow push. Not very exciting, but something.

fair surfing conditions at San Mateo - Linda Mar

After two weeks dry, I picked up a double session today. Fair in the morning with no wind, good shoulders holding up, and long mellow waist high waves. Fair- in the afternoon, deteriorating with the tide. Still pretty smooth and clean with no wind, lots more pep and push, but more clouseouts. Waist-Chest high with some larger waves hiding in sets. Both sessions were plenty fun with pretty reliable sets (after lulls.) Holiday crowd was all bunched up waiting for who-knows-what, so I had a little room to breathe. I'm stoked.

Oh and my personal stoke-influenced rating would be a Fair++. Reined it in to Fair sliding to Fair- (and probably well into poor- by now) for those of you looking for something more objective than: "YAY!"

as of 11 am on friday LM was glassy, smooth, and hammering with large closeouts on the sets; the occasional corner would pop up for ######unate. dropped down one large face, turned around and took another four on the head. Sometimes I forget that LM can dish out a pounding for those in the right place at the right time. Drove by OB on the way home, and noted the outgoing tide had made it look pretty decent.

Linda Poor. I made the drive down this morning to get away from the 6 kids currently residing in my house for the holiday. Even then it wasn't worth it. There were some ride-able waves on the smaller sets, but you would have to sit outside for the bigger close-out ones. A few desperado dudes paddled out but I never saw anyone catch anything worth getting wet for. Begrudgingly, I left.

Wow - super high tide, the swell hit a bit early and the offshores turned on. Surfed Chalupa Reef from 8-10am, with 3-5 waves and plenty of shoulders up and down the beach. Chalupa had a right and left working if you picked the right wave. However, the offshores were putting up a serious fight. Lots of fun, not too crowded given the holiday.

WH maybe CH on the bigger ones. Mostly closies, but there are some good ones out there. Hunted down a left all to myself that held up for some decent rides in between the drop and wash. After 10 days outta the water, it was pretty fun stuff. Really easy take offs and not much consequence made for a good day to test out the hurt parts. There's a crowd, but only on the one end. Explore a little.

Some occasional sets that were decent. otherwise it was closeout central. most of the people were just bobbing up and down and didn't catch a darn thing. then again it's lindy and u always can get a smile on ur face when people who shouldn't be out there try and make it. I witnessed at least 8 people give up and leave b/c they didn't know how to get past the inner break. It provided humor at least to an otherwise blown out day

Deliciously grim conditions this morning: overcast, howl-y offshores, rain, and oh yes- the weekend warriors came out to play. Plenty of HH closeout dumpers of course (it's SMLM for chrissake), but in-between were some really fun WH-SH zippy faces. I had a blast.

observed: a grown man put his wetsuit on inside out, chasing an unwaxed board with no fins as it blew across the parking lot.
also observed: amazing churning barrels off Pedro Point.

Well, I saw the 10am report and thought it would be fun... It wasn't!! I guess the dropping tide must have drained it all out. Small, dumpy/bumpy close-outs from the middle on down - and the typical bad day washing machine on the big end. At least it's nice and sunny.

I call it fair this morning from about 1030 to 1200. Afterwards the tide killed it. ranged from SH to 2 feet overhead. got closed out on and held down for a bit on one of the larger beasts, but what the hey, it's LM. anybody for an artificial reef at this beach? please say "i do".

A couple of racy rights made my day. One where the wall held up for just a little longer than anything else I saw. The rest of my session was spent chasing that and I never did find it again. Tried committing to a left that was mostly closing out, but had some hope, and was ragdolled over and over. A lot of drop and slosh and kooky rides, but I'll take those two racers for my score. The extra energy in the water warmed me up real quick with the extra paddling. Feeling pretty rinsed out. Nature's neti pot.

Howling offshores...lining right up...the further north you go, the more textured it gets, but I'd advise you hit it while it's hittable. Weather's about to change, and not for the better.

Had some good fun on those waves that go to the left down there. Only a few people out in a friendly lineup (I guess everyone was watching the festivities). A bit too much sideshore at times, but fun longish rides and more than enough to go around.

Paddled into the ghoulish fog to find a mixed bag of tricks and treats. Not too many other ghosts and goblins out. WH-CH with more energy than yesterday.
