The new swell and consistent, warm offshore winds made for a great morning session out at Lindamar. All the usual suspects were in the water, eager to catch a good ride in the unusually good conditions for this time of year. Go out and get it!

Went out at 10 AM and foolishly tried to paddle out in front of the pumphouse at low tide as there appeared to be some decent rights, which proved to be an illusion. You know it's not gonna be to nice when there's only 2 other people out at lindy. Got my ass kicked by the incoming high and the OH clean up close out sets in the shallow sand and got sat on the bottom a couple times. After I made it out, I went south where there were some waves to be caught but it was mostly a disorganized shit hole. Caught one real nice left though.

Well I had fun. These bumps had a little more oomf than I expected based on the numbers (but heck, I'll take it). The wind was behaving and that flag (at half-mast, btw) was leaning west for the early part of the morning. Occasional glassy SH whoppers, but ridable whoppers came through. The mucked it all up around 9.

Friday am was lots more fun than expected. I went out with a 9' longboard and had a blast at the Souse-end. Honestly, all the Lindy haters are just snobs. I saw some really fun rides and cool surfing. Yes, it was not shit-your-pants-and-die-@-OB-in-January, but well worth the trip for mere mortals.

Sunny and offshore. Negative tide and there was some swell. It didn't exactly work, but it didn't exactly close-out either. Every once and a while (if you're lucky) a shoulder or section would behave. At one point the swell just plain stopped and we were sitting on a lake.

I'm curious to hear how this works on a slightly higher tide, so report dammit.

Goood conditions around lunch time....Got some nice lefts over near the big rocks...

Sunny conditions...west swell in the water...stoked.

You know when you have a really busy weekend ahead of you..... and you know that if you get a good surf in on thursday, it will make the weekend so much easier, well this session was crucial for me now I can deal with life on land a little easier. Bless.

Around 11:00: Probably should not have left OBSF but I did and ended up at Linda Mar. The good news was that there was hardly anyone out, the bad news was that in spite of a little bit of size the waves left much to be desired. However, I did have fun after I switched my board for the handplane and fins I have been wanting to try out. Wow, that was way harder than I thought it would be. Not used to swimming with those fins and the handplane is in the way sometimes although it is small enough to swim freestyle with. I can see that there is a lot of technique to learn in maneuvering with those fins, plus there were shin muscles being used that I didn't even know I had. Catching the waves was pretty much the easiest part but need to work on shifting the plane from the right hand to the left hand. Also the water was very cold and spending that much time with my head under water was giving me headaches and some weird feelings of nausea. It was surprisingly tiring but fun and would like to try it in better waves.

I did it. A seven-layer-dip of whitewater to slog through. Once outside there were some lumbering warbly SH+ sets that came through offering a little face/shoulder action to glide/zoom on. Sunny, just a touch of onshore breeze.

Fair conditions at high tide.....
Got there around 930am...surfed until 12. Conditions were going downhill when I got out of the water.
Caught a REALLY nice left and a whole bunch of so so waves.
Sunny skies..little bit of fog, it even rained for a couple of minutes. Surfed with a little grom for a while, he was stoked! Beautiful Sunday

Probably a plus really, but let's leave it here for now. Sunny, offshore. There's some bumps out there and it cleaned up for a little while this morning. Mostly in the WH-CH range, but a few bombers came through and didn't totally close out. Long-weekend crowds in-effect.

Checked the nob, the mob, and the sob earlier which resulted in admiring those who were charging it; however, those lines of whitewash weren't really enticing me to have a good ole fashioned paddle battle with mother nature. So to the south I went where things were much mellower and surprisingly pretty damn good. Rode a bigger board today which made things that much sicker. It is always rad to see dudes who are in their 60s or 70s charging waves. It is comforting to know I'll have a stoke source for as long as I can manage to get out in the water.

spent the day sucking in resin fumes and the ocean was the only thing that could make me feel clean again. took a thick fish out into the water and had a blast. the waves were breaking quite nice and you could actually get some fun rides in. sun was shining and most people were good vibing.

You know the waves are ripping when there are more than 5 parking spots against the sidewalk open in the little parking lot directly south of the Taco Hell. An empty line up (or beach for that matter) with lots of rad choppiness to get ya feeling funky. An occasional womper set would come through to keep ya paddling for more. Rode a couple fun ones and managed to give my board a nice big gaping wound by riding directly over a rock (oops). Every time it looks like shit from the beach is usually when I have the most fun. Maybe it's that OB upbringing?

Went out for the late shift today and found a milder version of yesterday's action: less breeziness meant less numbing freeziness, and a little more glassiness. Nicely lined-up WH+ bumps between long lulls. Lots of sun! Yesterday may have reset the internal thermostat, but it was almost warm.

observed: no parking signs for tomorrow (Wed) through Sat. in the n0rth lot. What's that all about?

Oh that was cold: finger-flapping, toe-stinging, spit-dripping-from-mouth, slurring-mumbling (wha-PAH), cant-get-the-key-out COLD. Even with the sun! That offshore wind chill really amped-up the brrrrr.

The waves? Oh yeah, that (it's not weatherreport afterall). Really fun CH steep walls that held up for some ridiculously long rides. Not a lot of takers this morning either. Strong southward current. Really fun. Even with the chill I'd do it again.

Yeah, we did it. Way more organized (and surfable) than our last report. A bit more crowded too. Not that great tho. My partner in crime would probably leave the summary in the 'poor' range. I'm calling it f- because these waves offered more than just a drop and bail... pretty fun if you got into one.

Foggy, nearly no breeze, plenty of mega-whopper close-outs.

Pretty mixed up out there. The breeze is offshore at least. The sun was out for a little bit at least. There's some swell in the water at least. None of these things lined up to deliver much. Belt-buckle to pith-helmet sized, sectiony, shifty... blah. We drove down toward some of the SMOT spots for a peek. Not much better.

Fair surfing (for the location)
Bigger in the am and pretty small by noon but a little more consistant and lots of fun. Off shore winds helped.

Helped rescue a newbie that got swept way out by the rip. Due to (I assume) a combination of panic, fatigue and hypothermia he was no longer able to paddle or even stay on his board.
Three cheers to the surfer who first went out to help the kid. I noticed him out there and deciced to lend a hand. Between the two of us we managed to drag him and his board back to shore. The kid looked stoked to back on dry land.
I usually surf alone, and it is encouraging that we can still look out for each other.
