poor surfing conditions at San Mateo - Linda Mar

surfed from about 12:15 to 2:15. i was supposed to meet a buddy out in the water near the ######, but when i got there the ###### was blanketed in an extremely thick fog. realizing it was futile, i paddled out to about where i could see (what appeared to be) a working wave. I was wrong. lot's and lots of closeouts. you'd drop in, turn and have to kick out. i pretty much did that for about 2 hours. during that time the fog would roll in and out. hard to tell if there were places working better because it was hard to see many other places to the north of me.

good surfing conditions at San Mateo - Linda Mar

had a killer day out there from around 10:30 to around 12:30. surfed just north of ###### and got LOTS of great long pealing shoulders. i'd give it a "great" for conditions, but a "fair" for crowd, so i averaged at "good". lots of fun and when we left it was still really sunny.

Shark Sighting at Linda Mar Last Night

Pacifica State Beach — On September 2, 2009 Derek Bobbe was surfing at the ###### of Pacifica State Beach, also known as Linda Mar Beach. It is 6:40 PM and he had been on the water 40 minutes. The sun was setting and the sky was partly cloudy with an estimated air temperature of 71 degrees Fahrenheit. There was a light surface chop with small disorganized 2 – 3 foot waves. Water depth was 5 – 7 feet with visibility of 4 – 5 feet and an estimated temperature of 55 degrees Fahrenheit. A single pinniped was observed in the area 5 – 10 minutes prior to the encounter.

poor surfing conditions at San Mateo - Linda Mar

I think i can sum up the surf today (from 11:15 - 1:30) in 3 words: Closeout, Closeout, Closeout.

As i paddled out, another guy claimed it had been nothing but closeouts since he was out.

As i look at the Pedro Point Cam, it STILL looks like it's closing out. I have no idea what's going on, as the tide has been rising, but it doesn't appear to be helping. Maybe crappy swell direction?

poor surfing conditions at San Mateo - Linda Mar

yet another windy day at LM, but it was more side shore. surfed from around 10 to 12:15 or so and managed to get in some fun mushy waves until they hit the inside and detonated. i got the few outside picks on the bigger sets...not great, but it's always good to get out.

fair surfing conditions at San Mateo - Linda Mar

this is a little late, but i went out between around 10 and 12am and it was really windy, funky conditions. it was closing out a lot at first, but got better (sort of) as the tide filled in a bit. if there was a selection in between Fair and Poor, i'd give it that. Over all is was pretty rough, but i managed to squeeze out 3 or 4 really fun waves in amongst about 10 forgettable ones.

good surfing conditions at San Francisco - Ocean Beach

just got in from a 10-12 surf and it was super fun! strong currents pulling north, so paddling to stay in one spot was either futile or a total b!tch, so when you got totally tired, it was nice to drift and sample from whatever headed your way. solid shoulder to a couple feet over head out there. ###### was a bit bigger and crowded. lots of long waves with fairly clean conditions. to top it all off it's absolutely gorgeous at the beach (and in SF for that matter). who knows if it'll hold up but it was a ton of fun. oh...dolphins, seals...2 guys thought they might have seen a bad fin. i didn't

fair surfing conditions at San Francisco - Ocean Beach

...headed out right in front of ######. sets were solid shoulder high, but the wind was really putting a fair amount of texture (boarder line junky) on it. it was hard to find a shoulder as the waves were closer to closing out unless you were in the right spot. lots of seals, dolphins and pelicans dive bombing around me. spooked me out... only surfed here for about 45 min.

poor surfing conditions at San Mateo - Linda Mar

only appeared to be breaking in a few spots on the beach. surfed right across from ###### for about 30 min or more until the mushy (waist high at best) wave breaking real close to the beach and increasing crowd made it annoyingly frustrating, so headed to OB...

fair surfing conditions at San Mateo - Linda Mar

surfed with a couple buddies at the very ###### of LM starting around 9:30. it wasn't all that consistent, but every now and then you could snag a nice waist to chest high wall if you were lucky. our wave went from nobody out to 12 people out in a matter of minutes, so that kind of blew for a work day, but the ones i got were fun. it actually appeared to be picking up a bit, so if you got some time to kill, head to the ###### for a little more size.

good surfing conditions at San Francisco - Ocean Beach

in front of the ###### between around 9-11am, we found really fun, uncrowded, soft, chest to shoulder high waves rolling through. me and two friends sharing a peak that would yield some super fun long lefts if you got in at the right spot. really fun. started getting choppy and less consistent by the time we went in.

fair surfing conditions at San Mateo - Linda Mar

I started the surf this morning sharing a really mushy peak with one other guy straight across from ######. There was moderate off shore winds and it was only breaking in a handful of places, so crowds were pretty thick on those slightly better breaks. After trading off mushburgers with the other guy for about 45 minutes, about 20 people (all at once) decided our crappy wave was worth a crowd. It wasn't. The wind was blowing us out to sea, so if you weren't paying attention you quickly find yourself way out of the lineup. It was fun, but I bailed after it got too competitive for the conditions

good surfing conditions at San Francisco - Ocean Beach

Surfed right in front of ###### between 8:30-10:15am where it was small and fun. Probably waist to chest high and fairly clean little peaks rolling in. Very little current so it was a nice lazy surf.

Tried again around noon in the same spot. The warm winds out of the north were picking up considerably, but it wasn't doing all that much to the surf. The lower tide brought lots of closeouts and a bit of a current pulling south. I called it quits after about a half an hour of dropping in to closeouts in knee deep water.
