Warm offshore winds this morning. Falling tide. Pretty empty line up.
Every now and then a head high close out set with wind blown crests. Followed by interludes of nicely peeling waist high lefts and rights all along the beach.
Xmas came early.

BVB (Bad Vibe Bob) had been mentioned on E's surf report a few times in the past. Known for his fearsome scowl, big red board and impressive surfing, BVB has been prowling and regulating Bay Area lineups for the last two decades. He gained notoriety in the 80s and 90s for a string of scathing, vitriolic letters to the major mags after they began publishing pictures of Ocean Beach, SF.

Occasional sets, waist high (at 12pm) to wasted (by 2pm).
Gorgeous day. Mid 80's. No booties.
Outgoing tide, incoming red tide.
Bolinas soup with meat balls.

Sunny day. Nice waist high peelers out in the channel with rides all the way to the beach. Almost no one out.
Love the Bo. Locked my keys in the car - dammit. But such a sweet spot to wait for the AAA.

Icy water. Sunshine and rain (heading out to sea weirdly). Knee to waist high at the patch. No one out pretty much. Some sweet long rides. Best deal close to SF today. Maybe tomorrow too??

Spent the afternoon paddling around catching thigh high disorganized waves at the Bo.
There seemed to be a strange energy in the water. It was like the waves and currents were confused about where they were supposed to go.
My pal asked me if the water we were surfing had come from Japan.

To get the view of the huge sets rolling on to the coast go to 5.15.
Almost surfable but who'd want to be there. Helicopter tow in?

"Bill Laity of Swell.com jumped in water at Huntington Beach and didn’t get out for 26 hours and 147 waves. Bill beat the previous record by two hours, which was held by a North Carolina surfer. With temperatures in the low forties at times, downpour of rain, and strong currents, Bill beat the elements and took down the record."

Its only just become available on Netflix and holds up really well after 22 years!!

I've just enjoyed re-reading William Finnegans' seminal New Yorker article from 1992 called 'Playing Doc's Games'.
Its an in depth look at the OB scene of the early 90's and the group of surfers in the circle of the iconic charger Mark 'Doc' Renneker. Its a great read!
