FlowRider opening near Sacramento

Located next to Pins N Strikes bowling alley, the new entertainment center features indoor surfing, paintball and trampolines.

The main attraction, the FlowRider machine, lets customers ride jets of water streaming at over 20 miles per hour. A similar business, Dream Xtreme, closed down in the same location in 2010.

fair surfing conditions at Marin - Bolinas

Smaller than had been hoped, even with the incoming tide. I went out around 6:00, after the rental-board crowd had gone in. Still the usual menagerie out there, but I had fun.

Japan's Nuclear Disaster Seen Through the Eyes of Local Surfers

We Are All Radioactive, a forthcoming documentary series, tells the story of one seaside community's efforts to rebuild in the wake of the 2011 disaster. Motoyoshi, a small town and surf spot about 100 miles from Fukushima, was devastated by the earthquake and tsunami, and now it's unclear how damaging the effects of the Fukushima meltdown could be.

I don't recall seeing this posted, and I don't find it anywhere on the site. This is from the SF Planning and Urban Research (SPUR) association, 10/29/2011. The next public meeting will be in February. My apologies if this has already been posted.

good surfing conditions at San Francisco - Ocean Beach

Hey, I reckon it was pretty darn good! I might go so far as to say pretty DAMN good. Near a street that may remind you of Indian classical music. More pictures are here:
fair surfing conditions at San Francisco - Other

It wasn't actually in San Francisco. This is a spot where you might also like to do some calf-roping or watch TV news in the 1960s.

It was a solid Fair around 3 pm (SH-HH), but by 4 pm it was barely Poor.

good surfing conditions at San Francisco - Ocean Beach

I concur with the previous poster. The waves were very good. From 230 to 430 pm, I was at a street where it would be good to eat some crumpets. I don't know who was the guy with the light green board, but he was ripping. Here are a bunch of photos I took:
poor surfing conditions at Marin - Bolinas

Dribbly, crappy, knee-high, semi-blown. In addition to the 20 or so dudes you see killing it in this picture, another 20 were running down Brighton Avenue to get there.

I'm glad I wasn't there to surf today.

California Coastal Records Project

Y'all probably know about this site, but if you don't, it's extremely cool. Sometimes they fly a little too close above the shore, and there are often no waves anyway, but it's trippy to see how things have changed or not changed, all along the California coastline.

BBC video book report: "The Wave"

A bit melodramatic. Good pictures of rogue waves. Hero worship of Laird and the Jaws gang. If you're a surfer and/or watch the Discovery Channel, it's old news. Still, kinda cool. This is the author of bestselling book "The Wave," suitable for reading on airplanes, which is what I did.
