beautiful day. . . cold. medium crowds, but nice vibe on the holiday. clean conditions, but the swell is getting swamped by the rising tide, i'm afraid. pretty slim pickin's when i left. did i mention cold? brrrrr!

meh. . . some rideables, but pretty mediocre. long board recommended - these waves have zero power. pretty crowded, but friendly enough. the wind is starting to arrive so you should get on it soon if you're gonna do it!

A few years ago the Beastie Boys headlined Coachella. My girlfriend, myself, and our friends, were all super-amped to see them. It had been an amazing day of discovering new bands and we'd just dropped some happy pills to boot. After their first song they started talking about Iraq. . . for like 5 minutes. It was the biggest buzz-kill you could imagine.

small, crumbly, windy and cold. there are about 8 surfers, 3 SUPs, 2 kayaks, 4 body-boarders and a young couple curled up behind a huge log watching the utter turd-fest.

yeah, lindy was better than expected. the swell is pretty small but there are relatively frequent sets coming in. the water surface is glassy - a nice change. the sun's out and the fish appear to be celebrating. crowds were pretty thin. i took my big blue board out on the ######. there was a 4-pack of dudes catching a nice left. i hung back and caught the sloppier right. had a couple of nice head-highs that held up.

yeah, totally with greg. utter garbage out there. wasn't even good exercise - the current carried me out past the break. practically a dry-hair paddle, which didn't look possible from the beach. once out, the waves were either to small to ride or big top-to-bottom crashers.

i did see a couple lucky bastards get some sweet near-barrels, but it was a bit of a lottery.

the swell is big and thick but it feels like very short period stuff. hopefully it will clean up soon. . .

One reason to go out; exercise. I took out my 8' fail-safe. . . and failed. Normally, I can pull the 'ol Dick Brewer out of most close-outs. Not today. Straight to hell boy. Straight down. Torpedo.

Thought it was going to improve with the tide, but it just make the paddle-out worse. One of those, ". . . almost there. . . almost there. . . " just to turn your head and see the beach 10 feet behind you. Oh, the shame.

surfed 38th around noon. it was pretty marginal, to say the least - and steadily deteriorating. it was pretty blown out by the time we were done.

of note: the pleasure point inn is super kick ass. you can see the break from your room. you can also see it from the hot tub on the roof and, finally, you can see it from the kitchen where snacks are present and DVDs can be borrowed.

santa's serving up a beautiful, calm, sunny, warm day. nice vibe at the beach - and it's not quiet. medium crowds, vying for the glassy close-outs. great day for a christmas paddle, but take your long board and a chill attitude. merry ho-ho stoke reporters!

got out around 2pm. it wasn't bad for a maintenance sesh. i think the high tide was killing it. not "killing it" as in awesome either. the wind has put some texture and warbles on the water but the waves that were breaking where pretty clean. may be worth checking later. . .

i was out with matt (below) but we kind of split in different directions in the water. i was underfoamed, on my 6'8", and had a hard time getting into anything. the waves where either too mushy or a longboarder was already on it. poor doesn't quite fit the bill today, i'm giving it a full 4-fart rating.

strange day out there. . . some pretty good size, and some slow mushers. there was a pod out by the bathrooms (which was closing out big time), and another down by boat docks (where nothing was happening). i had a few good rides, by my lonesome, in front of ######. yay ######!

10 minutes ago I was getting motivated to load up my board. The water surface looked good and there was no wind. I just noticed the ambient light in the house drop. Looked out the window, the trees are blowing and the ocean surface is all white caps. Uggghhh. . . just like that.

drive-by report; not as blown out as other areas - but to call it glassy would be . . . ummm. . . wrong. kind of choppy, small, crumbly. possible long board rides, but poor overall. more specifically, within the poor category, i'd give it a two fart rating (out of a possible four farts).

Surfing the Tennessee River [video]

Just got back from a trip to Tennessee. We got out in my friends boat, on the Tennesse river, and tried out wake surfing. It amazes me that this is even possible. It was totally fun. No substitute for ocean waves, though. There is no substitute.

There where two beginners out on rental boards, doing the trademark paddle on the very back of the board - the tip pointing up at a 45 degree angle. They spoke in a foreign tongue unknown to me. Czech?
