fair surfing conditions at San Francisco - Ocean Beach

Woo! Small enough for me. Soft, but see prior sentence fragment.
Got my quickie/nooner. Definitely one of those [frown -> hand waves upward over face -> smile] sessions.

great surfing conditions at Tahoe - Kirkwood

Long time no post. (Ira Glass effect?)

Plenty of Steezy Pie on the frontside. Morning started with chairs 6 and 11 open, minus Sentinel and beyond. Got a few laps of fresh and then went off to find that steep spot on lower Chamonix.

Speaking of which, that spot yielded my best fall ever. Got caught up making a turn and went over the handlebars and into two and a half somersaults. Neck's a little sore from the whomp that stopped me, but damn that was fun. Unfortunately, no GoAmateur footage of it nor any witnesses.

They opened up Sentinel and Palisades after lunch, so I lapped it for the rest of the day. Enough peaceful semi-fresh turns to wear me out before my last successful charge down Chamonix to end my day (and season?).

Thank you, Kirkwood. Lover, it's been too long.

Bonus--picked up some new vocab:
gank [gangk] v. 1) to fall
ex: Ski Killebrew or Mott's in the morning? You're gonna gank.

great surfing conditions at Santa Cruz - Other

Pastryport: The frenchy bakery had no fewer than 6 bear claws at 2pm!

Grabbed a few as I was headed Tracey's office. Figured that might make up for:
being stanky from surf in an office environment,
not working today then watching others work,
drinking some of said office's adult beverages.

Bear claws were well received. As was the eclair.

Peely and weirdly peaky at a place that often isn't. A little soft, but I'm a big boy who can will myself into waves with the help of my trusty steed, right? Off-crowd fun.

Messed around with the goAmateur wrist mount. Interesting way to critique my footwork and front arm form.

Clean, peaky, rampy, (and crowdy) fairplusness from about 11-12 yielded some extreme schralpy logtastic gnar for yours truly. (Read: This has been a good day to ease into OB with minimal beatdowns and several [!] waves.) Didn't push my luck and got out after a performance that, if I must say so myself, was tasteful, understated, and modest. You're welcome.

PastryReport:
Headed to the west side to #####'s [my censor] for a bear claw and an eclair (for any lucky lady who might cross my path with a hankering for a 6-8hr old, melted eclair.)

Kinda vanilla and crumbly on the outside, but totally sweet and almost opiate-like on the inside, and generally consistent, with a regular 5 claws to a set.

Took my 1 and done, as the claws were probably done around 1:30.

Played the part of the sacrificial lamb today and surfed so those working didn't have to. For several hours I endured paddling into peely waist-chest rights for some yawningly long rides. Be grateful you were at your desk typing a lot. Went after mostly shoulder head high set waves early on so all you sinners could take er easy earning your bread. Thank God that's over.

as large as i've seen at this spot. better-than-me's were ripping it up at the main peak. Redeemed (http://stokereport.com/rant/michel-junod) by re-meeting Spicoli's shaper, Michel Junod. Got to ask him if he remembers it's sweet checkerboard pattern. (nope.) took my requisite mushy long ride around the corner and got stuck behind sets paddling back for about 30. left immediately. Bear Claw.

Fun out there mid morning. Predictably nice stuff to work with. Got a few fun drops a little too deep to make the shoulders, but also lined up section after section for a marathon, victory wave around the bend.

Nice day trip to Sugar Bowl. Thought I was done for the season, but it keeps on storming. I rocked the one-piece, which is superb in the pow, but unfortunately less than ideal in the stall.

Wasn't too deep today, plus it was a whiteout, so only great minus. Still, it was my first time at SB, and I likes what I sees. Especially a bunch of the steepies we weren't allowed to go on today.

I'm going to go eat the rest of my Ikeda's blueberry cobbler now.

great surfing conditions at Tahoe - Alpine Meadows

My third powder day in a row. Managed to get over to Sherwood chair shortly after they opened it and got more fresh turns. Lapped it about 7 times, and my performance diminished as it got more chopped up. Still awesome. I'd get down to the lift to meet my pow buddy and I'd be more and more snow-covered each run due to more and more epic blunders. Best was when I misjudged a dip/jump near the runout and ballistically launched headfirst into the deep.

Thorough day 3. Uber satisfied.

fair surfing conditions at Tahoe - Alpine Meadows

Skied Alpine Saturday. Spring conditions, and not intolerably crowded. Made sure to turn in the sun and expect crispies in the shadows. Spent too much time bombing down Summit and way little time on bumpier steeper stuff. This is largely due to a mix of a low urge to explore and a sense of loyalty to ride w/ some friends of the single-plank persuasion, who of course don't take kindly to bumps. Made a single trip down Scott Chute to end the day. Big grins. Should have lapped it a few more times, though.

All in all, I think I need to get to know Alpine like I do Kirkwood.

fair surfing conditions at Tahoe - Mt. Rose

Friday I opened my '10-'11 season skiing Mt. Rose. Unfortunately, the Chutes were closed all day, so instead I eased into my season with a bunch of groomers and a few bump runs. Stokage courtesy of warm spring conditions and the monster deal I got from liftopia.com: lift ticket + $12 lunch voucher for $33.

Someday I'll get back to those Chutes...

Beached whale near Alcatraz?

A few days ago I noticed a dark mass on the surface of the water about 100yds westish of Alcatraz. Doesn't look like a boat, and through my crappy binoculars it seems like birds are landing on it. Has anyone else seen or heard anything about this? It hasn't moved in several days.
