Tom lived in France for several years with LeeAnn, her mother, and later a son, Nathan, before the couple separated and Tom moved back to the States. Garrett McNamara has officially surfed the biggest wave ever. The Guinness World Records have confirmed that McNamara has ridden a 78-foot wave (23,7 metres) in Nazaré, Portugal, to dethrone Mike Parsons and his wave at Cortes Bank.

La Niña dissipated during April 2012, as below-average SSTs weakened across most of the equatorial Pacific Ocean and above-average SSTs persisted in the east. The Niño 4 and Niño 3.4 indices were warmer than -0.5oC throughout the month, and the Niño 3 and Niño 1+2 indices remained positive.
