SFOB fair++ Pretty fun out there, solid OH on the bigger sets (towards the smaller end of the beach), breaking top-to-bottom even on the high tide. The gusty offshores make for some interesting takeoffs--extra stroke or two definitely mandatory, and a few of those set waves seem to feather forever. What with the sun and the race and all, plenty of people walking around the beach--you'd almost think we lived in a beach town. In the words of rebecca black: fun fun fun fun.

DIY bike mule/Jetta parts?

Alas, after 263,000 miles and countless trips to the mountains and down through mexico, my faithful Jetta has finally succumbed to the elements. Sensing that the end was near, I wanted to offer her one final trip to the beach to let her soak in the salty ocean breezes from her favorite perch (the Sl0at parking lot).

HA! 'dolphin sighting' by Dusty....paddled in with 8 minutes left in his heat. "the waves are shit, I'm not going to sit there and get bit by the biggest fin I've ever seen".

After 2 weeks away, the good lady welcomed me home graciously. Hit it from around 9-11, and after floating around stupidly chasing fatties for 30 minutes, paddled to a proper peak and got some super fun SH++ (dare I say HH?) rides. The wind mostly behaved too. Maybe the best part was having 2.5 peaks all to myself in prime OB territory. On the plus side of fair.

I took my friend surfing at Pacifica/LindaMar this past weekend, and she now has what seems to be swimmer's itch. (It looks sortof like poison oak, but not as bad.) I know the SF bay has been known to have this parasite (especially one filthy beach in alameda: http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/2010/oct/01/rare-swimmers-itch-hits-a...).

It seems that this morning, the lazy unemployed bird got the fat worm. zero wind at ob, and its starting to clean up quite a bit; a somewhat muddled swell, but with the dropping tide, plenty of super fun fast sections. the pelicans are out in full force, and while walking back to my car, i found a monster crab-claw---i can only imagine the goodly creature from whence it came. i'm giving the entire experience a fair+.

I happened to be by the Pacifica Pier, and stayed until after dark. What had been dodgy-brown looking water by day turned out to be phosphorescent algae. If you've ever had fantasies about pulling into glowing blue-green pitching closeouts, tonight might be your night.

Pardon this somewhat tangential query: how is the water clarity down at linda mar/pacifica of late? I've been meaning to try out my shiny new miniature spear gun, and don't quite dare venture out at OB with it (don't worry, Uncle Pedro gave me the okay to poke around by the rocks...). Any responses (even in mockery) will be appreciated.

surfed 6:30-8 at one side of the beach, where it was fun, but poor+, then drove to the other end of the beach, heading to work, and saw that it was genuinely good at this end, so I suited back up. (0 ppl out when I arrived, surfed 8-10am, maybe 8 in the water when i left). no chop, no funk, just clean SH peeling sets every 5 minutes or so. A little amuse-bouche of the autumn, if you will.

8-10am: despite howling (offshore) winds, junky swell, and pretty high tide, surprisingly fun HH surf with plenty of rideables (in a variety of peculiar shapes--though mostly on the fat side). only 2 others out when we paddled out, then 1, then none.

(As a few people pointed out, FP was the source of nearly every negative vibe on this site....I vote to go back to those good old days and leave ######s/###### out of the discussion.)

This is a report for SFFP. Since the season is basically over, i figure it can't hurt (and I guess this might be my last FP report).

Small waves and small crowd this morning. Surprisingly consistent chest high sets coming through from 6-8am, then dropping off and becoming quite sporadic. (It wasn't just the tide.) I left at 9:30 when i was getting cold and a bit bored. All-in-all, it was pretty fun though (i'm surprised it was even breaking, and even more surprised that 4 or 5 other dudes showed up to surf.)

So I took my brother surfing for the first time today, to LM, and it blew. Which got me thinking a bit about my first time[s], and what made me decide to come back for more; this in turn, got me wondering about every else's first times/what made them give up a life of warm tea and lazy mornings in exchange for the early greyness of cold rain and colder waves.

A couple of fun chest-high waves this morning at FP, and some slightly less fun waist-high waves that broke right along the rocks. The decent sets were intermittent (increasingly so as the morning progressed), but I have no complaints--had the place to myself for the first and last hour I was out. On an unrelated note, there seemed to be an unusually strong parade of lady-runners this morning.

This morning was a blast at FP with some blue skies, HH clean waves, strong currents pulling every which way for some added cardio, and the occasional outside set for variety. I even scored a pancake breakfast...can't ask for a better morning.

Slightly funky at the jetty this morning, though plenty of decent HH rides. The funk helped spread out the few people that were out. Definitely got more crowded after lunch, but not too bad. (My personal highlight was a 3ft outgoing wave--rebound off the rocks on the high tide.)

Well, I waited an hour or so to make this post, just so I wouldnt get in the way of the locals. Today, in fact, the hard-core locals seemed so friendly that they gave nearly all the waves to the lone body-surfer (see attached video). If I remember correctly she posted about 3x as many waves as the rest of the gang combined...props to her.

Didn't go out at FP--just checking it out on the way back from a super-early Mystery Spot X session with @lee, catching the brief sunshine (nary a local in sight).
