In 1977, Richard Serra made an unexpected contribution to the Whitney Museum's Biennial exhibition. Instead of his well-known, large-scale steel sculptures, he offered a wall-size abstraction he called an "Installation Drawing." Serra did not pay homage to the Whitney's Upper East Side location, but rather looked to his childhood in San Francisco's Ocean Beach, calling it Tarava1 Beach.

Jaws bombs 50-foot plus surfing waves

Big wave surfers Jeff Rowley, Greg Long, Shaun Walsh and Albee Layer have paddled-in to gigantic 15 metre (50 foot) plus waves at Peahi "Jaws" and cement paddling in as the new frontier in big wave surfing.

Rowley and friends were on Maui, Hawaii waiting for the monster surf to hit the Peahi, "Jaws" reef and produce the world's biggest surfable waves. Watch the bombs coming in, here.

Former pro surfer Shaun Brooks died at the age of 36 on Tuesday. The son of Quiksilver contest director Rod Brooks and brother of former World Tour surfer Troy, Shaun was one of Victoria's best surfers. He was a Victorian Open champ in his teens and a world junior champion, but was forced into competitive retirement in the late 90s.

Tests of water samples taken at Ocean Beach Saturday showed bacteria levels had fallen in the area between Pachec0 Street and Sl0at Boulevard, and the city lifted the water-contact warnings there.

The city also removed water-contact warnings for China Beach and Baker Beach.

Colorful golden landscapes border straight ahead towards the ocean. Hot coffee comes to mind at 6 a.m blended with a cold, calm sunrise. It was a gamble driving up north. To score in New England, you have to be persistent, though. We were able to stay at our friend Sam Seeland’s house while he was away.

Wavegarden UK is under fire in Bristol

The first public official artificial wave park in the world is being attacked by environmentalists, authorities and residents of the city of Bristol.

Wavegarden UK, which has been announced for the British coastal city for spring 2013, is being accused of promoting large commercial food or drink companies in the surf pool projected for the Avon Gorge area.
