Soul Surfer event at Cinequest Film Festival

Tomorrow night at the California Theatre Cinequest Film Festival is proud to present SOUL SURFER as the Closing Night film. SOUL SURFER is about the inspirational story and life of Bethany Hamilton. She will also be at the event tomorrow, along with AnnaSophia Robb who is the actress that plays Bethany in the film. They will both be receiving awards tomorrow night directly after the film.

How come the only story that makes world wide news about surfing is when someone gets injured at Mavericks?

The story of Jacob and the heroes that rescued him is an amazing story and I truly hope for the best for him.

However, I have friends and family from around the planet have been tweeting and emailing me the story of his injury. They did the same thing when there was injuries at the contest last year, and with any shark attack or other surfer that was hurt in the water.

Clean, lined up sets but with a bit of mush and backwash from the tide. SH-HH with a bit bigger on some sets. Sunny and a very nice morning. Might be even better when the tide drops and the wind keeps going offshore.

HH+ at the beaches, clean offshore with a bit of a mushy take off due to the high tide, but walling up and making a fast line. Some outside sets in the 1-2ft OH range. Get it before the wind comes up, the dropping tide should help it.

Blown out slop, low tide and south wind is killing it. If your absolutely desperate there is 1 spot working but its 2-3ft and mushy as heck. The tide is so low that the near shore sandbars are exposed. Good day for recon.

HH-OH Sets with lots of offshore at the exposed breaks. Got 2 solid lefts and 2 solid rights. Should get even better with a lower tide if you want to make the trip down to HMB as long as the winds do not come up.

Should get better as the tide drops, however the bounce off the rocks was helping enoungh that 1 or 2 waves out of the sets would peak up into a nice little barrel. I got lucky and found myself in one. Lots of bounch but glassy and fun. SH to HH on some of the standout sets.

Should have been here tonight, scored some sweet waves in north SMC tonight. Waist to Shoulder high and 8 guys out. The sandbars were lined up perfect with sunset into the fog, every third or fourth set wave opened up into a small surfable barrel sometimes a left, sometimes a right. Super glassy and so much stoke in the line up we all went in happy. Nobody left with out some green room time. Best night surf in months.

My Cousin Sam lives in North Bay, Ontario. He recently got a SUP rig and has been learning to surf on Lake Nipissing. His adventures are pretty cool for someone that has yet to surf in the ocean and Stand-Up Paddle boards are still very rare in Northern Ontario. His facebook posts about learning to surf on a lake have been quite amusing.

Some beach in HMB was working really nice. Unfortunately 92 is backed up to hell so it would be tough to get out there. Paddled out for about 30 minutes scoring a few SH-HH waves and one small right barrel. If you are in HMB and the wind stays down, get out there, its clean and fun.

The Jetty was a blown out mess but a rainbow pointed me south to an empty beach break further down the coast. While I didn't find a pot of gold, I found some mushy but workable Chest to shoulder high waves, lined up with and offshore flow. Scored about 7 rides in 20 minutes, then go out stoked and alone.

Doubled up today, small quick fun waves in the morning with no wind. Was expecting more of the same tonight, but ended up being in for a surprise. Howling offshore to side shore wind with HH+ waves. Doubled up and closing out on some but there were some real gems to be found if you were in the right spot. Out with 1 friend in the morning and 2 in the afternoon. It was a good day of surf and I will hit it again in the AM.

Went out a beach break I usually don't go to in HMB. Tough paddle out this morning but managed to score 2 rides. The Friday Boogie board crew was out and it was a good if sloppy time. Shoulder to head high sets at the more exposed beaches, but sloppy and a tough battle to the outside.

Just me and 2 other friends out this morning at a too low tide spot in HMB. Out from 7:20 until about 8:30, but I caught a few rides and shared some laugh and stoke. Knee to waist high, but pretty clean. Mushy but needing about another 1-2 ft of water to make it work better.

Freaking cold water and high winds but side shore and reasonably peeling. Scored 3 waves in 20 minutes. 2-3ft with the south swell showing up nicely. Jetty is working, rest of HMB is blown out.
