Have been reading about this "record breaking" wave a lot, its huge no doubt, but I think the filming angle has a lot to do with the claim. Did some quick math, giving GMAC the benefit of the doubt on a lot of the measurements. I don't see 90 feet. Best case math puts him in the mid-70s.

A new surf movie, just saw a screening at SXSW, I thought it was going to be terrible surf camp, but it turned out to be a mediocre thriller, I was bummed.

Surf trip report

I told crypto I'd post about a surf trip I took Wednesday, So here's the story.

Since before Google maps had satellite info, I've been somewhat obsessed with poring over aerial photography and finding new and exciting places to surf. I've found many promising spots far away, but never got the chance to surf one.

USGS skis in the water a few weeks ago.

I was out a few weeks ago and there were a couple of USGS guys on skis working their way through the lineup with a whole mess of electronics on board. I figure they were mapping the bottom. Anyone have any ideas on where I could find that data? I checked the USGS site and did some searching but turned up nothing.

Today, after nearly more than 15 years of surfing, I had my first encounter with localism on a physical and personal level. I've gotten the stink eye paddling out at a localized spot, i've dropped in on the bro-est bro and been berated for it, and I like to think I've made it through all of these experiences with some level of dignity intact.

Today was on a different level.

Satellite Down, Surf forecasts suffer?

Yesterday, QuikScat, the satellite responsible for most wind measurements over the ocean failed, most likely permanently. There are other satellites, notably ascat, that provide similar functionality, but cover far less area than QuikScat did.

Foggy with a short interval swell out there. A lot of people paddling for it, seems like a rough one. Size is about 1.5x with some lined up rights. Fair+ if you can make it out

1.5-2x and fun. A bit shifty but the paddle isn't too bad. Took a few of the sets on the head and even that wasn't bad. Fog rolled in around 10:00 making it spooky.
