Glassy, slight offshores, & 6'@15s swell normally elicits woohoo's, but something was off. Too right place/right time. Way outer bar would throw on occasion, crumble at other times. Infrequent, but just frequent enough to keep me, for much of the session, smack dab inbetween it & in the inner bar. Some beautiful waves seemed to break off in the distance, both S & N of me, but it rarely lined up. Caught a few, still stoked, but a bit of a frustrating day. I'm guessing someone out there is really stoked b/c they successfully lined a bunch up.

poor surfing conditions at Tahoe - Northstar

$101 tickets, literally zero coverage where they aren't making snow, and icy conditions where they are. Pretty terrible conditions, but at least the runs were uncrowded. The Village was another matter. Jammed with people not skiing.

On a side note, not sure what they've spent $30M on at Northstar... Same crappy beads & candle stores in the Village. They dropped another lift on the Backside, but that just means they tore out some great tree skiing. Oh, and they added another bar/restaurant mid-mountain. Generic Asian/Mexican/American fare.

Sorry I sound grumpy, but $101 will do that to you.

Flailed around on the fish in overhead conditions. Classic kook move of misjudging wave size led me to bring the fish thinking I'd encounter shoulder-head high conditions. Despite some morning sickness warble, there were some beautiful overhead-1.5x peeling & reeling waves rolling through. Unfortunately, my fish would get me in real late, leaving me little more than a heavy drop & explosion of white. Still, really fun under cloudy, cold skies. Stoked.

Confused swell doesn't know what she wants to be now she's all growns up. HH+-1.5x OH. Glassy & no wind but disorganized. Some hollow, others crumbly. Worth the paddle, though. Wind & fog increasing as I left.

Longboarded what was pretty much the only spot working. The SW winds were steady but not killing the chest high waves rolling through. Most were pretty soft 'til they hit that inner bar longboard snapper. Caught a ton of meh-to-decent rides, traded grins & waves w/an Angry Guy, a Pickle, and a Zurf.

Best part of a mediocre session, though, was my brandy new wetsuit... 4/3 Xcel Drylock got on the supercheap from Whiskey Militia, and I was out for 2 hours w/o even realizing it. First session in *months* that I wasn't shivering after 30 minutes in the water. And bonus of bonus, I went bootieless for the first time all summer. Already feelin' more hippie. Where's my alaia?
