Bolinas was very nice this morning. Median age in the water was 60, median vibe was "stoked". Lots of consistent waist-high sets coming through and a few old guys who really knew how to use them. Love that early Sunday crowd. I think I made a new friend or two.

Conditions were marginal but there were waves. Glad I brought something a little longer. Easy paddle. Even as the winds increased, people continued to come, which means it probably shaped up right as I left. Figures.

As we were leaving, some guy having a seizure rear-ended a car full of people at the stop light on Great Highway and kept on going, nearly running over some surfers in the process. Thanks Sticker for the correction. I just thought he was an asshole!

MRSA is disgusting. Don't get it. The antibiotics they gave me are working but they have also caused me to be really tired and spaced-out and I've missed two days of work.

@piss_shiver is building a Chernobyl-style sarcophagus around my wetsuit which hangs in his garage. When I get a chance I will wash it with bleach.

Brought the longest thing* I had and hit the middle from about 1:30PM till it more or less shut down at 3PM. Session was actually pretty good in the "number of waves ridden all the way to the beach" count. Low drama, low excitement. Looked a couple blocks in either direction and only saw one other guy out, so we pretty much had the thing to ourselves. I'm wrecked from a weekend at Kirkwood so I'm glad it was as mellow as it was.

Also it was bleak.

Company ski trip adventures continue yonder Northstar way. I can see why you guys call it Lindy-at-Tahoe.

We encountered hard-packed but well-groomed runs under a sunny sky. Massive crowds but they have so much mountain that there was never really a problem. Best stuff I found was over at Lookout Mountain and on the backside. The experience of taking the final, shallow run down to the parking lots felt like being in the middle of a freeway of snowboarders. I'd love to see what this place is like on a weekday. Stoked!

Company ski weekend. Diamond Peak (Incline Village) was our first stop, with light crowds, really friendly people, and a fun batch of intermediate runs. There were also these pods of groms in stretchy spiderman-like ski outfits absolutely shredding the black stuff.

They did a good job grooming what's left after nearly a month without snow; it was pretty hard packed but I didn't encounter anything icy or particularly uncomfortable. All in all I was mostly just impressed with the good vibes and would love to go up there again. Next time I'll push myself harder; I stuck to the blue today.

Feature Request: Water quality on front page

During the rainy season, I like to consult the SF PUC's beach monitoring page. It's got bacterial readings for all the beaches in the city and also lets you know when there's been a combined sewer overflow (and they know immediately, given that they're the ones who open up the pipes).

Highly fucking stoked. I knew something was up when I had a solid tailwind through the park. Then I passed Angry Guy, also on his bike, who was on the way back. By the time I got to the path by No-No and could see the offshore spray and people surfing I was ecstatic. Then I paddled out and discovered water that tasted and felt like I was in Santa Cruz and a big pod of smiling surfers and occasional other aquatic life. I am blessed!

I would rate it 'Good' for externalities and general level of stoke. The surf was actually so-so, but at least the surf WAS. Shoulder-high peaks coming through with semi-regularity and not too many people on 'em. Excellent rip in front of the bathrooms, too.

Rolled in around 1 PM. Easy order (0-duck dives), grabbed two mackin' slices with pepperoni, jalapenos, capers, and anchovies.

They sell by the slice with a variety of delightful toppings, the fountain soda is refreshing and carboniferous, and there's a stack of surfing/board-related magazines by the door. Rated Good+

Hit it briefly with the beau from 5:30 to 6:45. Knee-high closeouts begging for a Softop, which 2 Mile happily provided for him at the last minute. Woulda stayed out for longer, but it was his first time in 20 years and I forgot how easily you tire when you're new. I'm proud; he caught a few belly-rides and I could swear I saw a silly grin ;)

After turkey din-dins at Coast Cafe, we settled into a quaint room at the Grand Hotel and should be able to surf again at dawn before heading back home. I was all cranky and sick earlier, and now I feel like a new man. Marin will do that to you!

This highly ethical real-time report is courtesy of Amtrak's "Pacific Surfliner" (slogan: "See Trestles... from a fucking trestle!") There is no surf between San Luis Obispo and Ventura. I think I saw a bunch of surf-starved guys sharing a sorta-peak down yonder Carpenteria way, but all in all it looked pretty sad. No swell, no wind, nothin'. Even the kiters had to stay home.

Quicky session; 6:45 to 8 AM.

Surfed ######, then ######, then ######. Shoulder-to-chest-high waves, occasional doubled-up-or-tripled-up confusion but lots of clean, fun rides to be had. I spent most of my time going through the washer. I feel like a happy little child :)

Stoked crowd, buncha spongers out, dolphins, snowy plovers, the works...

Things started off doubled-up, crumbly, and confused around 8:30, with a strong rising tide which made for a very trying slog from Wharf Rd. to the "Groin". Anyone trying to paddle out that side of the sign was rapidly dispatched to the channel. The "Patch" was working pretty well if you could get out. That dude with the hat was ripping it on his log. You guys know who I'm talking about. Caught a few fun and short rides commensurate with my mediocre surfing ability and cashed in my chips around quarter past 10. First pic is from before.

Softop City @ Bo. Played around in the "groin" and got sent into the channel; tried my hand at the "patch" and spent most of my time catching short rides on the inside before a lull finally came and I made it out. All that energy from this monster swell has been making it break everywhere at once, and fast. Not too big, though. Lotta first-timers, couples, and groms.

Party at ######. Took the Xtracycle out around 8-ish, hung out on the inside and "surfed" a bunch of shoulder-high waves on the ######-Quintara-######-Santiago express. Emerging around 10:30, I asked a snowy plover what street I was at and it just peeped at me, so I had to bug a dog-walker instead.

I've been refreshing the beach monitoring page every hour or so and the dreaded blinking triangles have appeared. This means that a mixture of raw sewage and stormwater has been released due to the system being at capacity.
