I spent a couple hrs out there from 3-5. It was bigger than normal for this time of year with some big fat windswell sets. It was also packed on the beach and in the lineup for a Monday. I guess summer vacation isn't just for children anymore! You know it's crowded when you see 3 different dudes in a small area using hand planes, one of whom was using a plastic fast-food tray from T@c0 Bell. I called it a day after getting a 1-inch chunk taken out of the side of my board, courtesy of someone who was in my way shortly after i took off on one. Oh well, more ding repair is in order.

H00k... Saw more "wavestorms" in one session than I have since Costco started popping them out... I think I counted 5.. What the hell is happening?? Anyway, first hour around 2pm was fun, then it got progressively smaller and sloppier - not to mention, more crowded. It became a virtual raging waters kiddie wave pool by the time I left. Fair + for the first hour, poor + for the rest of the time, and fair weather.

Rant - El Nino

So, the National Weather Service actually published this article. It basically says that it's a coin toss whether we will have an El Nino or not... Then, it says that the Bay Area isn't affected by El Nino unless it's a strong one... And even then, not always.... hmm......

Got "hooked" back into my old favorite spot today. It delivered. Man was it great to get a break from the wind and the shit surf at most of the west and nw exposures up the coast. The crowd was manageable too. Good summertime south swell fun on this last weekend of July.

What I'm about to say may be sacrilegious to some, so let me preface this... I'm a NorCal guy (or central cal to be geographically accurate), born and raised on the southern fringes of the Bay Area and I love it here... I take a lot of in-state vacations and I drive down south at least once yearly. Of course, I always bring my board and leave the wetsuit.

Small, but ride-able at my old haunt from 2-5. The new south swell wasn't doing too much, but provided a few little fun ones every now and then. It got crowded toward the end, and the rising tide started swamping it, but it was still better than the wind-blasted crap we've been dealing with up here lately... Warmer too.
