Surf Reports by Coastsider

The shots of the pit taken from a boat are always mind-blowing. I unfortunately had to make do with a 600mm lens over a mile from the action on the bluffs. What these shots do though is give you a different sense of scale as you see nearby ships dwarfed by the wave and the surfers become ants on the massive faces. I hope you enjoy my shots.

I find it incredible that the Mavericks Big Wave organizers don't understand what a high surf advisory means and set up camp on the beach, and then this is what happens.

A short video showing the thousands of spectators on the bluffs trying to catch a glimpse of the contest, I hope they all take their trash home with them.

Friday 9am - Montara, fair surfing

Usual mess on the inside, but some nice strong sets coming through although most are closing out. Conditions will change as the wind comes up. Sizable 6-8ft wave faces.

Tuesday 7am - Montara, poor surfing

Sloppy blown out, light wind, occasional set with 3-4ft faces.

Apart from Mavericks, how many NorCal locations have you seen someone get a slingshot from a jetski? I'll share this picture I took a couple of years ago, this was taken at Montara on a particularly big day in early winter. There was no way anyone could paddle to the break from shore as the inside was a boiling hell hole. I watched these guys catch a couple of awesome waves.

I bodyboarded an nice early morning session over the reef, later in the day as the tide turned it picked up even more. I rushed home and grabbed my 600mm lens and got these shots from the cliff looking down the line up. If you are in any of these shots ping me and I'll send you a copy. Great session.
