...saw an empty summer lineup, put on my wetsuit fast as I could, had the ocean for nearly two hours all to myself, only to learn after a few great rides and leaving the water that a massive Great White Shark was spotted in the area. Don't know if the sign was up yet, or if I just missed it in my excitement of seeing empty peaks.

When the contest light turns green at the Billabong Pro Tahiti, all eyes won’t be on the greatest surfer of all-time, Kelly Slater, who has won this event three times. Nor will they be on former three-time World Champion Andy Irons, who was a winner at Teahupoo back in 2002. They won’t be on goofy-footers Bobby Martinez and C.J. Hobgood, both former Billabong Pro Tahiti Champions.

The Moviestar Peru Classic, the fifth stop of the ASP Women’s World Tour, was postponed for a day when Head Judge Dave Shipley decided last week not that the waves were too small, but rather that the waves were too big. Shipley’s decision further eroded the professional credibility of the ASP Women’s World Tour.

The Sunset Beach community, realizing how pathetic it is that Huntington Beach still calls itself Surf City even though it only sees a few good days of surf each year, has decided to make an attempt at denying being annexed by Huntington Beach, preferring to become its own city.

Tuesday 3pm - Linda Mar, great surfing

Linda Mar was fantastic today...if you don't mind surfing in the rain.

Offshore winds, glassy surface, clean waves. It would have been one of rare great days at Linda Mar, were it not for the droplets of fresh water falling down on the head. I don't surf in the rain, so I didn't go in. There were plenty of bodies out there though.

U.S. Representative Bill Posey, a Republican whose district includes Kelly Slater’s hometown of Cocoa Beach, Florida, joined U.S. Representative Mazie Hirono of Hawaii to introduce a bipartisan resolution recognizing Kelly Slater as an official Surf Ambassador for his numerous lifetime accomplishments and contributions to the sport of surfing.
