Got a little post work action this evening. Shoulder high to a bit overhead, fairly clean, with some right runners in the mix amidst a lotta sectiony ones. Decent sized crowd in a tight spot. Maintenance needs, warm temps, and an ill sunset made it worth it the while.

Fast drops into closeout right barrels with a few makeable ones in the mix. None for this guy. SH-HH. Difficult on the backhand with howling winds. Health hazards aside, I love surfing in storms at dusk.

The local haunt looked like a little too much for me so south I went. Showed up and there were about four guys out. That number went to about forty within an hour. Even with the maxed tide things were fairly lined up and pounding, but there were easily connectable soft spots in between sections. Solid nine foot plus sets were coming through and tapping the edge of my at ease comfort level. Definitely took a couple walls to the dome. Gotta love those channels though. Tons of water moving around and tons of current. I'd call it good based on wave quality and consistency, although I struggled with a lot of paddling and competition and only managed four waves in a couple hours.

Blah. It's not much fun out there. Sure, it's glassy and there's a little swell left, but it's just not really working. Soft and weird with the big tidal swing. Southerly current is pulling fairly strong. Might get better as the low continues draining out. Watch out for the longboard GoPro crew. They're obliviously burning and wasting the inconsistent sets.

Thursday 4pm - Ocean Beach, good surfing

Specshackular. Head high to a foot or two over. Very hollow. Very fast. Pull in and hope for the best. Took a pounding that surprised me given the size. The howling offshores were making for some difficult and late drops, but they've since backed off. It's chilly, but beautiful out.

That was one of the best sessions I've had in a while. Four turn waves can be hard to find in S.F. It was shoulder to head high with overhead sets, clean, and lined up for days. Crowded, but manageable. I picked off about six waves in an hour and half and even nabbed a couple sets. For Santa Cruz, I'd call that a high wave count. Really glad I made the drive...

Saturday 1pm - Ocean Beach, good surfing

The bigger end looked like a bit too much work for my epic hangover and 6'3. North I went. Shackelton's adventures. It was super clean and spraying back under offshores, head high to a foot or two over, crowded and barreling. The lulls made for an easyish paddle and a moderate northbound current cut up the pack. I had a really good time and my headache's gone. Lots of punch and a couple nice coverups.

Rant - Heavy

After throwing the idea out there, a friend just threw this gem together in Photoshop for me. I'm considering starting an image blog where I take metal portraits and switch the horns to shakas and include various rideable watercraft. Stupid? Yes indeed. I'll keep y'all posted. Currently trying to register shreddymetal.tumblr...
