Doesn't let you do poor-fair. Just me, a whale, a dophin using me as a fish herding backstop, and microdrizzlers. Grey whale about 100 yards out (wow) and dolphin's high-speed U-turn less than 10 feet in front of me were highlights - beats swmming at the Y!

Going...going...gone(?) South wind was getting on it bigtime when I left. Water was clear and cold (lots of upwelling), plenty of swelll, sun out, but here comes the storm. Tricky conditions, but beats the Santa Cruz stare and glare.

I'm going to nominate the Presidents Day 2013 swell as the best ever surfed at OB. With the 3-day weekend, plus the 'miracles' of cams, blogs, pix, calls, tweets, plus the whole contest entourage in the area there were a TON of shredders out on a very heavy, clean, and pitting swell. If you were at the beach you had to have seen people get shacked out of their minds.

Let's see, HMB buoy has been offline for over a year, and now the SF buoy has gone down for wind reports. Is anybody maintaining these things? Does anybody care besides (I assume) surfers? How about commercial fishermen? Who knows who to bitch to at NOAA? These days with virtually all government its the squeaky wheel syndrome.
