Manhattan Beach — On September 4, 2012 Journalist Pete Thomas reported the following on his web site ‘Pete Thomas Outdoors'; "A great white shark, measuring an estimated 8 – 9 feet, was hooked Tuesday afternoon by an angler fishing for bat rays on the Manhattan Beach Pier.
Pretty onshore, hacked up and sucky, highway closed (again), but found a 'reasonably' smooth stretch of ocean and caught a few small semi-nugs. Crowds were NOT an issue (joke) - came out of the water more stoked than most SC sesh's. Glad I paddled out.
